Beloved deer that visits the same town each year appears with an arrow lodged in its head
For years, the residents of Kenora were great friends with Carrot the deer. But on his most recent visit, he needed urgent attention.
In 2018, Carrot the baby deer became a local celebrity in Kenora, Canada.
As most people know, deer are usually timid, shy animals. But Carrot was different. He would approach people and love interacting with them.
Naturally, the people of Kenora soon fell in love with Carrot. Carrot formed an especially strong bond with Lee-Anne Carver and could be often seen outside of her home.
Eventually, it was time for Carrot to migrate with his family.
The kids (and even many of the adults) in Kenora missed Carrot.
But then, in late 2019, Carrot showed up again.
And Carrot was just as friendly as last time. All of the kids got to pet him again. For a while, Carrot became an honorary member of Kenora.
Naturally, Lee-Anne Carver spent plenty of time with Carrot.
Once again, it came time for Carrot to migrate with the rest of his herd. But this time, the residents of Kenora expected to see him again.
In late 2020, Carrot returned to Kenora. But something was terribly wrong.
Carrot appeared on the lawn of Lee-Anne Carver’s home, with a bad injury.
He had an arrow lodged in his head.
Carrot was still walking around, but Lee-Anne knew that the arrow could cause Carrot terrible harm.
So Lee-Anne got into contact with a local expert.
The expert recommended keeping the arrow in place for a while. They said that if Lee-Anne removed the arrow, it could cause severe bleeding. And if the arrow was cut, it could splinter, which could cause Carrot even more damage.
Lee-Anne wished that she could help Carrot. But she knew that if she so much as touched the arrow, she’d be putting the deer’s life in danger.
Eventually, some members of Canada’s Ministry of Natural Resources became involved. They said that they could tranquilize Carrot and attempt to remove the arrow safely.
But when they found Carrot, they saw that part of the arrow had sheared off. So the ministry men quickly tranquilized carrot and got to work on removing the arrow, hoping that they could save the animal.
Soon, the men had removed the rest of the arrow, sterilized the would and given the deer some antibiotics. They hoped that it would be enough to save him.
Carrot woke up from the tranquilizer. Lee-Anne breathed a sigh of relief. But she knew that Carrot’s condition was still sensitive. So over the next few days, she kept a close eye on Carrot and gave him as much support as she could.
Amazingly, Carrot started to recover from his injury.
Over the next few days, Carrot became his old friendly self again. Eventually, Lee-Anne knew that Carrot was going to pull through.
The people of Kenora and people on Carrot’s Facebook page are all so relieved to know that Carrot made a full recovery.
In late January, Carrot was still wandering happily around the town of Kenora, brightening the people’s days.
Soon, it will be time for Carrot to migrate with his family once more.
The people of Kenora hope that Carrot will return in late 2021 and for many more years in the future.
