This beautiful fruit is exclusively cultivated and grown in the beautiful town of Toma, Hokkaido. The skilled farmers can only produce limited fruits, even in its peak season. That’s the reason why the demand for this fruit is high and its prices even higher.

The black Densuke watermelons are usually packed carefully in box cardboards and have stickers as proof that they are authentic.

First, they have to carefully prepare the soil. Then, once the seedlings are ready, they have to carefully take each seedling and carefully pair it with another seedling from another watermelon variant.

For another two weeks, they will be closely monitored before transferring them into the greenhouse. The farmers will then prepare the greenhouse to be suitable for the Densuke watermelons.

The process of transferring them in the greenhouse requires patience and utmost care.

Once little fruits are seen, the farmers will have to choose the best of the best and remove those who don’t look good. The remaining watermelons are then put on plastic trays.

At first, these watermelons look like ordinary ones with green rinds.

The next step is cleaning them. As usual, they are carefully cleaned and handled with extra care, so the watermelon’s quality remains the same.

They have a machine that polishes the watermelon’s rind to show its beautiful shiny black color. The Densuke watermelon is almost ready. You can already see how beautiful and shiny it is.
