Deployed soldier sends 'smelly' shirt to depressed dog and gets the greatest reaction

JD and Rachel Aument have two dogs, Brindle and Xander. Brindle was very close to JD while Xander was very close to Rachel.

JD was then deployed overseas as a firefighter in the Army Reserves and he had to leave his family, including Brindle, behind.

When he left, Brindle went into a deep depression.

You see, the two have been inseparable, ever since JD adopted Brindle years ago. They spent every waking moment together.

Suddenly, JD disappeared and Brindle didn’t understand why his dad was not there.

Every day, he looked at Rachel as if to ask, where’s JD? Where’s my dad?

“He’s so sad without him here,” Rachel told The Dodo. “He loves me, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not his person.”

Rachel didn’t know what to say. She told JD but they both didn’t know what to do.

One day, JD came up with a brilliant idea. He decided he’d send his shirt to Brindle, hoping it’ll help him feel better.

He had no idea if it would work but he had to try. So, he sent one of his smelly shirts back home so Rachel could give it to Brindle.

It worked!

Rachel placed it on the floor where Brindle would see it. Brindle had no idea who owned the shirt but he was curious. She tiptoed to the shirt to smell it and realized it was JD’s!

Brindle went crazy! She dropped down on the floor and laid on JD’s shirt. She rolled around the shirt hoping to rub JD’s smell on him.

“He immediately knew that it was JD’s shirt. There was no doubt about it,” Rachel said. “I was crying so hard while recording his reaction.”

Rachel took a video of Brindle’s reaction to send to JD but couldn’t resist sharing it on her Facebook profile.

“OMG. Guys. My husband has been deployed for the past 9 months and he sent home a stinky shirt for his pup. I’m not crying, you’re crying,” Rachel wrote.

Brindle would not let go of the shirt and took it with him everywhere.

“He carried [the shirt] up to bed with him after the video and slept with it the rest of the day,” Rachel said.

Well, Rachel took it a step further. She took the shirt and dressed Brindle with it.

Now, Brindle can literally take JD everywhere.

“I think he felt a little abandoned when JD left and the shirt helped reassure him that Dad still loves him and is coming back,” Rachel said.

Brindle was more relaxed and felt so much better after he got the shirt from JD.

Even Rachel needed the reassurance the shirt gave.

“I miss JD so much and it was the first time any of us had smelled him in almost 10 months,” Rachel said. “I had to take a minute with the shirt for myself before I could share with Brindle.”

But Brindle and Rachel can kiss their worries and sadness goodbye.

JD was going to be home in about a month from the time they received the shirt. They can be together every day, all day from the time JD will walk through their door again.
