Woman invents desk chair that allows needy pets to sit with their owners
With COVID-19 keeping many people at home, it is fortunate that some companies are allowing their employees to work remotely. This has given many pet owners more time with their dogs and cats.
One downside to that is when a pet wants to spend time in your lap while working. Thankfully, one Swedish inventor has come up with a solution.
The problem with pets and working from home
If you are like many small pet owners, then chances are that your pet loves to spend time with you, in many cases curled up in your lap or at your side. This makes it more difficult to work when working from home.
But Simone Giertz, a YouTuber and inventor, decided to do something about this problem.
Simone Giertz takes matters into her own hands
She created a desk chair for pets who need to be by their owner’s side constantly while they are at home. Best of all, the chair allows owners to work comfortably at a desk while their pet sits comfortably at their side, at least if they are small enough.
“My dog would really prefer it if I turned myself into a dog bed,” Giertz explained in a YouTube video. “Since I’m not too keen on that project, I built her a chair instead.”

After sharing the concept on Twitter, many people responded with stories of their own, sharing photos of them trying to work as their pets tried to snuggle up with them at the same time.

In addition to interrupting the workflow of many owners, some talked about having to buy an extra-wide chair just to accommodate the needs of their fur baby.

The chair offers a staircase in the back, giving needy pets easy access to a small seat at the side of their owner. The pet-sitting area is perfect for a small pet, though a larger animal probably wouldn’t be able to use the chair.
Building the desk chair
Giertz shared the process of how she made the chair in a video on her YouTube channel. So far, the video has racked up over 645,000 views, though that is sure to grow as more people become aware of her invention.
Giertz’s journey began when she decided to look for a chair that would allow her to work from home while still giving her dog the attention she needed. Not finding anything online, she took it upon herself to build a chair of her own.
Once she had designed the chair on her computer, she brought it to life using her skills in a woodshop. After much trial and error, she was finally done, a perfect perch for her needy pooch.
Building a pet-friendly desk chair of your own
Unfortunately, she doesn’t produce the chairs for others, but her making of video gives plenty of guidance to make your own.
