Tiny, disabled chihuahua puppy forms unbreakable bond with a pigeon who can’t fly
Animal friendships are surprisingly common. These two animals became best friends despite being from very different species.
The Mia Foundation is an amazing charity that takes in many different animals with birth defects.
When the Mia Foundation discovered Lundy the Chihuahua, he was a timid, scared animal.
Due to a brain condition, Lundy could not use his hind legs. His mother had abandoned him.
The dog thought that he would starve to death. When Lundy arrived at the sanctuary, he was terrified. Luckily, someone would help him get comfortable in his new home.
Herman the pigeon first arrived at The Mia Foundation in 2018.
The animal was on the brink of death. But before long, thanks to the sanctuary, he was healthy and happy. However, due to an accident, Herman would never fly again.
The volunteers at The Mia Foundation discovered that Herman was an incredibly affectionate creature. In fact, he would cuddle many of the other animals in the sanctuary.
So when Lundy was struggling, the volunteers put Herman next to him to see if it would help. Lundy soon formed a strong connection with Herman and vice versa.
The two animals both became best friends. In fact, they spend most of the day cuddling one another.
The volunteers at The Mia Foundation were touched by this friendship. They realized that the world needed to see it. So they posted some pictures of Lundy and Herman cuddling to Facebook. But even they were shocked by just how adored the photos became.
To date, the first post that showed off Herman and Lundy’s bromance to the world has gained over 24,000 reactions.
It also has more than 50,000 shares and 20,000 comments. People have been saying things like this:
In the coming days, the best friends became big news all over the world.
They even got featured in People Magazine.
Soon, the foundation had been flooded with requests to adopt Herman and Lundy as a pair. However, everyone at The Mia Foundation realized that these two animals would have the best life at the sanctuary. They could be used to teach others about friendship.
In the months since these photos went viral, much has happened. Lundy has only grown more confident. He has since made friends with all the animals at the sanctuary.
But of course, Lundy’s favorite friend is Herman!
Due to the confidence boost that Lundy has gained from Herman, the dog has even learned to walk around just with his forelegs.
This has given Lundy a level of independence that he never thought he’d have.
The volunteers did make Lundy a special wheelchair, with a little platform on top for Herman, but the volunteers realized that it would be less painful for Lundy if he just walked around on his forelegs.
And then Lundy and Herman even published a book together (although a human may have helped with some of the words.)
Herman and Lundy have really shown the world that our exterior differences mean very little.
Deep down, we’re all the same. Hopefully, people will learn from Lundy and Herman’s example and realize that we can all be friends.
