Man shares how he wakes up his deaf and blind dog with sweet gesture
They say dogs are man’s best friend. Well, the opposite is definitely true, too. A dog will provide unconditional love to a human owner (I prefer the word partner), generally receiving that same love back. Partners for life – a beautiful, mutual relationship founded on genuine affection.
Life, though, is a struggle – for both humans and dogs. Fortunately, even the cloudiest days can be brightened in each other’s presence despite the hardships.
Aiden Mann has a special relationship with his disabled dog Plum, peppering her with absolutely affectionate, heart-melting interactions to start the day.
Plum’s a double Merle breed, commonly plagued by eye and inner ear problems. She’s both deaf and blind.
Merle dog breeds feature unique, patterned fur coats. A double Merle results from breeding two dogs that carry the Merle gene, regardless of breed or color. In which case, the offspring have a 25% of being a double Merle. Generally, a single Merle gene will yield marbling and light spots throughout the otherwise solid coat. Some coats are purely white.
So how do you wake up a dog that can’t hear or see? Obviously an alarm won’t work. Neither will bright, flashing lights. You’d definitely need something that won’t frighten or harm her, either.
Super partner Aiden has it all figured out, opting for something as gentle and caring as his love for Plum.
That’s right, each morning Aiden lowers himself to the ground and proceeds to gently blow on Plum’s nose. She’s incredibly cognizant of her surroundings. Within a split second, she’s alert and up on all fours.
Her wake reaction time’s phenomenal despite a single soft blow. Up and at ’em.
Although slightly disoriented at first, she quickly finds Aiden. He extends an arm, proceeding to gently hold and pet her. Their morning lovefest has just begun.
Aiden proceeds to look affectionately at his partner.
Aiden and Plum engage in their first hello of the day – a perfect, loving introduction to the morning. There’s no “waking up on the wrong side of the bed” here. Their day starts perfectly.
Plum raises her white paw, gently caressing Aiden’s head. The two embrace for a few more moments.
They have a truly special bond. Although concise, Aiden’s simple words say so much.
That’s so cute. They love each other unconditionally, spending a few more touching moments on the ground, face-to-face.
Plum’s a special dog, and Aiden’s a great guy. Despite Plum’s hardships, her quality of life remains sky high through her affectionate, loving partner. She gives him the same love back, showing her appreciation each and every day.
Aiden’s tribute finishes with a proclamation of everlasting love. And with that, they’re both ready to start the day, together.
Aiden and Plum’s interactions are beyond heartwarming. Like them, remember to show appreciation to those you love, especially during these strange times.
Love knows no bounds, getting us through the hard days and elevating the normal ones. Aiden and Plum will always have each other, through days sunny and somber. They make a perfect, loving pair. Dogs are undoubtedly man’s best friend. But the love is mutual – man will always be dog’s best friend.
