People are creating gorgeous outdoor bars made from wooden pallets – here's how to make your own
It seems that all it took to get the world outside was to lock them in their houses! After so much time spent indoors, people are getting a bit stir crazy and doing all the things that they promised “they would do next year”. One of the things people seem to be flocking towards are home projects! If you are going to spend so much time at home, at least make it look good, right?
Outdoor projects can be an easy and fun weekend activity.
One of the trends right now is to design your own outdoor bar. People are calling this a “garden bar” and making them incredibly unique and special! These garden bars are all across social media and people seem to be getting ready to use them as summer inches closer and closer!
The great thing is that these garden bars don’t require a lot of materials.
Besides looking incredible, most of the project is made with things you can find anywhere. They are a super cheap and fun way to get some friends outside for some drinks!
The main element of the bars is wooden pallets.
Wooden pallets can be found anywhere. Most Walmarts or Targets will have a large dump in the back that you can pick up a few from. Depending on where you are, you may have to go ask permission first! In some places they just don’t care.
With a few barstools and some hard work, you can have a garden bar!
If you want to have some friends over this summer, this is definitely the project for you. The great part is that you can customize most of it and add your own things that you would enjoy!
Some people have taken creative liberties and added some incredible additions.
Whether it’s a cute entrance gate or a whole edition that allows for two beer taps, the possibilities are limited only to your imagination! Feel free to look at the included pictures to get some inspiration.
Here is how to make your own garden bar:
Its time! Let’s get started on how to build your own.
Supplies:
- 4-6 pallets
- 8x4ft OSB board, ~18 mm thick
- 90mm screws
- 35mm screws
- outdoor paint of your choice
Directions:
The directions themselves are rather simple! We are going to be intentionally non-specific because of the nature of pallets. They are all a bit different and there could be some variations! The great part about this is that you can take some liberties where you feel so inclined.
- Disassemble the pallets into their two parts. There is a timber frame and the slats that lay on top.
- Using the frame of the pallets, create a frame for the bar. You can create an “L” shape or just go with a classic rectangle
- Screw your OSB board onto the top of the frame and secure with the 90mm screws
- Using your 90mm screws, secure the frame at the joints. At this point you can paint the frame as you like.
- If you plan on painting your slats, now is the time. Take your wooden slats and secure them to the outside of the frame using your 35mm screws (or glue/pallet nails)
- Using a furniture wax or varnish to give the board some luster
- Add any additional touches as you see fit!
Enjoy!
