Dog goes nuts when mom surprises him with 400 tennis balls for birthday

We donā€™t know what, exactly, it is about tennis balls that our dogs love so much, but thereā€™s no question that theyā€™re an ultimate canine favorite. While Kong balls are great and all, thereā€™s just something about the light, fuzzy, bright colored balls that drive most dogs bonkers.

Clearly, tennis balls are where itā€™s at!

When it comes to a Belgian Malinois dog named Titus, thereā€™s nothing better than chasing after one of these balls.

Of course, tennis balls arenā€™t the only thing this sweetheart loves.

According to his mom, Alistair Clyde, Titus loves to goof off for his mom and his tiny dog brother, a Chihuahua named Bear, to keep them entertained. Apparently, the dog loves making them chuckle so much that he never even takes a break.

ā€œTitus is the goofiest boy. He loves to play 24/7. Heā€™s also the smartest dog Iā€™ve ever had,ā€ Alistair boasts about her dog in an interview with The Dodo.

Titus provides his mom with so much love and laughter that she wanted to do something extra special for him. The whacky pupā€™s 2nd birthday was just around the corner, and she wanted to go above and beyond to make it the best day EVER for him.

All that was left for Alistair to do was figure out the perfect gift for her silly dog.

After thinking it over for a moment, the light bulb turned on and she had a bright idea. Tennis balls, of course!

ā€œI was like, ā€˜What would he want for his birthday? Whatā€™s his favorite thing in the world? Tennis balls. No brainer!ā€ Alistair recalls.

When Alistair went to purchase some tennis balls, though, she was faced with another choice to make; how many balls would do the trick? Sure, Titus probably would have been happy with even just one ball, but his mom wanted to go BIG for his special day.

So, she did what any doting dog mom would do. She bought 400 tennis balls.

ā€œI saw that you could buy 30, 60, 200 or 400 tennis balls. I first picked the 60 one and was like, ā€˜What? No. Thatā€™s not good enough. He deserves ALL the tennis balls!ā€ Alistair explains.

If there is one thing about owning a dog like Titus, itā€™s that you canā€™t keep anything from him for long.

The tennis balls showed up in two tall cardboard boxes that stood nearly as high as Titus himself. As soon as he sniffed out the goods, he couldnā€™t help himself and tore a hole in one of the boxes when his mom wasnā€™t in the room.

The silly pup pulled out two of them to play with before mom came and put a stop to it.

When his birthday finally came, Titusā€™s mom took the remaining 398 tennis balls and poured them all over the floor at once.

As could only be expected, the balls rolled absolutely everywhere! They rolled and bounced down the stairs, beneath the couch and into every other corner and crevice in the house.

Titus may have found the tennis balls before his birthday, but it didnā€™t steal his joy about them one bit.

ā€œAt first, he was a little taken aback when I dumped them. It took about five seconds for him to start running around like a maniac in excitement,ā€ Alistair recounts the moment.

Unlike Titus, Bear was completely unmoved by his younger but larger brotherā€™s birthday present from mom. Instead, he just watched the show from Alistairā€™s lap, both of them laughing at Titus.

ā€œ[Heā€™s] getting a little older so stays on my lap and watches. He got treats so he knew he was special and loved, too,ā€ Alistair said.

Though Titusā€™s birthday has come and gone, there are reminders of his pawesome day still lying all over the house and yard.

Alistair is letting her silly dog enjoy each tennis ball as much as possible as she slowly accrues them one-by-one. It turns out that Titus has an awfully big heart and he and his mom plan to donate most of the 400 tennis balls to a local shelter after heā€™s had his fun with them.

We think itā€™s safe to say that her big surprise was a huge success!
