Lonely dog finally finds forever human after spending 729 days in Colorado shelter

A pit bull-boxer mix had spent nearly two years at an animal shelter in Colorado before finally finding a forever home. The dog’s name is Drools and he was adopted earlier this month.

Kacey Widetich wanted to bring attention to the needs of dogs like Drools who are looking for homes and decided the best way to do it would be to actually move inside the Conour Animal Shelter.

Drools says "Good morning everybody. Have a great Monday and come adopt me. I'm an amazing snuggler."…

“These remote shelters are so understaffed and just don’t have the capacity to adequately market all these sweet pups,” Widetich said to KCNC news. “If my spending the night in the shelter for a few nights helps even one dog get adopted, I will have done my job. But I’m not stopping at just one — they all deserve a second chance at happily ever after.”

This inspiring and motivated woman started spending the night in the shelter on October 22nd and posted images of her stay on social media to raise awareness about the dogs who needed new homes.

Widetich is the founder of “Relay for Rescue” and clearly is a passionate animal-lover.

The Denver area charity describes itself as an animal welfare organization that “fervently supports and engages in all aspects of the animal welfare spectrum to reduce pet overpopulation and minimize suffering.”

She posted photos of her and Drools getting comfortable in a makeshift bed in the shelter. Widetich also posted photos of her and Drools playing.

All of this was done just to raise awareness of dogs who need new homes.

On the 12th day of her stay, and the 729th day of Drools’ stay at the shelter, a forever-home was found for the sweet guy.

A man from Boulder, Colorado drove to the shelter, adopted Drools, and took him home along with some toys, treats, and a new bed!

“I feel like I won the lottery,” the man would later say to KRDO news.

Drools might feel the same.

Drools wasn’t the only dog adopted after Widetich’s stay in the shelter.

3 other lucky dogs found forever-homes as well.

“All of these dogs deserve a second chance at happily ever after just like Drools and I look forward to working with the shelter to ensure this continues to happen moving forward,” Widetich said to KRDO news.

Drools also helped a friend of his get adopted too.

The little scrappy-looking guy in the below photo is named Mason and he now has a forever-home, too thanks to both Drools and Kacey Widetich.

In a Facebook post, Widetich noted that a woman had come into the shelter originally for a meet-and-greet with Drools. The woman must have seen Widetich’s social media posts and was interested in possibly adopting.

While at the shelter, the woman met Mason and fell in love with the 2-year-old Wire Hair Terrier mix. She adopted Mason and the rest is history.

In other exciting news, Mr Drools also helped his pal "Mason" find his forever home, as well. This beautiful woman and…
