Dog wraps arm around best kitty friend, grasping cat in a hug during peaceful moment together
Bo is an adorable lemon beagle with a whole lot of love to give. Even though he has a pawesome relationship with his cat brother Jasper nowadays, he wasn’t always so sure it’d turn out that way.
When Bo’s mom first brought him home at just 8-weeks-old, he was a naturally shy pup. His mom, Lisa Olsen-Plummer, noticed that her tiny pupper was particularly timid whenever he saw Jasper lurking around. She also noticed that the feeling was mutual with her curious black cat. He couldn’t figure out what mom saw in Bo.
It was clear to Lisa that her cat and dog were going to need some time to figure each other out. She just didn’t realize how little time that would require.
According to Lisa, it was her sweet cat, Jasper, who made the first move in their friendship.
“Jasper was very cautious of Bo at first. He stayed back and watched from a distance until one day, he went up to Bo and put his arm around him,” she recalls in an interview with The Dodo.
The doting animal lover said she believes it was Jasper’s way of letting the dog know it was okay and that they could be friends. She also thinks it’s where Bo picked up his signature one-armed hug move.
“It was almost like he was telling him, ‘It’s OK! Let’s play.’ I think that’s where Bo learned the hug from,” she continued.
After her cat’s show of compassion, it didn’t take long before the unlikely buds were fighting like old friends. They will rile each other up so much that sometimes mom even has to step in, just like siblings.
“They play hard and instigate one another. Sometimes, it causes a fight and I make them split up — just like kids,” she described.
Of course, the two aren’t always at each other’s throats.
There are a fair few peaceful moments between them when they think that no one’s looking, and it’s these times where Lisa gets a glimpse at just how deep their bond to one another goes.
One of their favorite pastimes is to scale the back of the sofa in front of the living room window. There, the two sit side by side in silence so that they can watch the birds together.
They were doing exactly that when mom walked in and saw something that made her heart melt.
A couple of weeks ago, Jasper was in his usual spot on the back of the sofa watching all the pretty birdies. Bo was hanging out on the couch cushions below and suddenly decided he wanted to join his best friend, so he crawled up next to his favorite cat.
Thankfully, mom was recording the whole time because what Bo did next no one would believe without seeing it. The sweet dog reached out his front right paw and wrapped it around Jasper in the most tender of ways. He even moved it up and down a couple of times like he was rubbing his back as if to soothe his nerves about not being able to chase the birds.

Things may have gotten off to a ruff start between them, but it’s pretty clear that these two amigos will be friends for life now.
“They were enjoying the sunny day watching the birds. I was super excited to catch this beautiful bonding moment of two animals showing love for one another,” Lisa told ViralHog who uploaded it to YouTube.
The precious 20-second video went viral almost immediately and for all of the obvious reasons. Friendship just doesn’t get any sweeter than this. Watch the heartwarming moment for yourself in the video below.
