Dog becomes best big brother after “doubling in size” following rescue from tiny cage

He was a guard dog.

Although it’s unclear how a dog could defend anything when imprisoned in a cage without water and encircled by freezing snow.

But that’s how Abby and Cliff discovered Wally.

The fluffy bear-shaped dog was extremely underweight and appeared unhappy and uncared for in his cage next to the Great Wall of China.

They immediately became worried.

Abby and Cliff contacted Bunny’s Buddies because they couldn’t bear to watch the adorable canine in such appalling circumstances.

“Cliff and I look at each other and we were like we have to apply,” Abby recalled.

They needed to save him.

A nonprofit called Bunny’s Buddies saves dogs from slaughterhouses, death shelters, and the streets of China and South Korea before placing them in American homes.

They were able to save Wally and bring him to Abby and Cliff with the aid of the group. He had to be cleaned up and given a proper wash because he was matted and unkempt.

In January, he flew to the U.S.

“The first time, I think, he ever experienced a soft bed or a carpet was here,” Craig recalled. “He was just the happiest little guy ever.”

The problem is that Wally, who was given the name Wally since he was discovered close to The Great Wall, isn’t at all little.

The canine grew exponentially.

The Tibetan Mastiff now weighs 135 pounds.

That’s a healthy and happy weight for Wally’s breed.

When he was originally saved, he weighed about 65 to 75 pounds. As an adult, this dog breed should weigh between 70 and 150 pounds.

“It was really fun to watch him transform like a butterfly just from this caterpillar to this beautiful Wally he is,” Abby fondly remarked. “He’s so funny, the most beautiful dog I’ve ever seen. He just brings us so much joy he makes us smile.”

Abby and Cliff were expecting a girl.

When they eventually brought Wally’s baby sister home, he was incredibly interested and thrilled. They easily became inseparable.

“He just seemed to pick up quickly that she is a new part of the family and ‘I got to take care of her,’” Abby shared. “He doesn’t really lick anyone, but he’ll go over to her and sniff the back of her head or lick her hands.”

The feeling is mutual.

When Wally gets into her parents’ bed in the morning, their daughter squeals with delight.

Wally likes to position himself below his sister’s high chair so he may devour any food bits that fall from it.

His sister feeds him straight from her plate and enjoys sharing with him. She enjoys kissing him as well.

Wally wants to follow his sister around and make sure she is safe since he has decided he is her guardian.

“They’re buddies, and he just felt more complete and felt like he had someone he really needed to protect, and that’s her,” Cliff remarked.
