Many dogs have a favorite activity that they like to take part in. For many, it is the simple pleasure of going outside and playing, though even this is often accompanied by a favorite toy. For a golden retriever, named Finley, this is tennis balls. He especially loves putting them in his mouth.

His love of tennis balls and putting them in his mouth has even led to Finley breaking a world record.

Trying to break a world record

Now six years old, Finley has been practicing for his record-breaking feat since he was two. When all was said and done, the determined pup had fit six tennis balls in his mouth. Hard to believe that it only took six, but when you watch him do it you can tell it is harder than it looks.

Documenting Finley’s attempt at the world record

His owner, Erin Malloy, created an Instagram account back in 2018 to document his love of tennis balls and holding them in his mouth. It was then that she discovered that dogs holding tennis balls in their mouths was a category with Guinness World Records.

At the time, the record was five tennis balls.

A lot of work on Molloy’s part

To Molloy, it seemed easy enough to fit an additional tennis ball in a dog’s mouth. So, she and Finley got to work on breaking the record. But there was more involved than simply having Finley holding tennis balls in his mouth and calling it a day.

It took over a year to compile the evidence that she needed to make her dog’s feat eligible for the record book. Molloy had to measure each tennis ball and collect eye witness statements from people who had seen Finley accomplish the task.

But she was up to it, and at the end of the day, Finely was declared the new record holder. Social media users around the world celebrated Finley’s accomplishment. As for Finley, his family threw him a party in the backyard with some of the other dogs in the area.

Best of all, his mom even ordered him a special cake all for himself from BONES Dog bakery in Rochester, New York, near where Finley and his family live.

Finley has become famous online

Finley has even become an influencer on Instagram and has parleyed his fame to promote some of the many products sent to him to congratulate him. Some of the products include toys, supplements, and recycled tennis balls.
