In the past, stray dogs on the streets of Romania were a big problem. And while the country’s government has taken steps to combat the situation with great success, you can still find a stray or two living on the streets. One such dog was so desperate for help that she would constantly follow people around.

Rescuers from Howl of the Dog were there to help her out when she needed it the most.

A life on the streets

A survivor, the stray dog had found a way to make it one her own. But by the way she acted, she was looking for someone to help her. So, she would wander the street, dodging cars, and following anyone who walked by. Soon, though, rescuers from Howl of the Dog were on their way to take her to a new life.

Getting the stray dog to safety

Rescuers had to be careful when they approached her so as not to spook her. The last thing they needed was for the stray to get spooked, run out into the street, and get hit by a car. So, they approached her slowly, offering her treats in an attempt to win her trust.

A car ride to the clinic

This plan seemed to work as soon they were able to slip a leash around her neck. Then it was a matter of a short trip by car to the local vet clinic where she could get checked out and receive treatment for any ailments she might have. She seemed to enjoy the car ride and soon she and the rescuers were at the clinic.

Once at the clinic, she was checked out, mainly to see if she had a microchip, which is required in Romania, as well as to determine her age and whether she needed any shots. As it turned out, she was about two years old.

Naming her Lily, her rescuers made sure to take good care of her.

She was also given some supplements and vitamins to boost her immune system and received a haircut to remove some gum that had become stuck in her fur. Then she was taken outside for a bath and cleaned up. Once she was nice and clean, it was time to take her for her first walk in a nearby park

Once at the park she seemed a little confused about what she was supposed to do. Eventually, after being guided by one of her rescuers, she figured it out and was soon playing like any other dog. Thanks to the workers at the shelter, Lily was on her way to a new life, now all she needed was a new home.

Fortunately, Lily didn’t have to wait too long as was adopted by a family in Germany. After her adoption, the rescue posted about Lily’s good fortune on the rescue’s Facebook page.
