Dog spots Koala drinking from water bowl in backyard after fleeing bushfire and comforts him

If anyone hears that a koala is in their backyard with their family dog, their first thought will probably be that this is not going to end well.

But that isnā€™t necessarily so.

You see, dogs and koalas donā€™t normally get along.

Koalas do have sharp teeth.

They also have claws that make them capable of defending themselves.

However, as experts explain, if found in an unfamiliar and confined place, such as a backyard, they will probably be victims of the dog whose territory theyā€™ve just stepped into.

Although this tends to be the norm, and there are specific instructions given to Australian citizens, who may at some point come across a koala around their home, there are exceptions.

Two years ago, while Australia was burning, and while the horrific bushfires were killing plants and local animal life, some of the wildlife resorted to urban areas.

They did this in order to escape the fires that were burning their natural habitat and putting their own life at risk.

They needed help.

At that time, about 3 billion animals were killed, according to a conclusive Sydney-led report commissioned by WWF.

Thankfully, some animals found shelter in safe places and even peopleā€™s homes, just like the koala in this amazing story.

Quasi escaped the horrendous bushfires, and he found shelter in a nearby backyard, where owners provided water and whatever he needed to feel better.

But someone else was watching out for him,

Weirdly enough, the family pet, a dog named Rusty, also agreed to take the little Koala in, and they even became best friends as time went by.

A neighbor captured a video of the two unlikely friends sharing a bowl of water, and the video soon became a viral hit.

ā€œNeighbours Kevin and family have a resident Koala that comes down for a drink when it is really hot. Riley Stone and Olivia Stone have a dog, Rusty, who knows the Koala well and they are mates,ā€ the man wrote on Facebook.

As we can see in the video, the koala is drinking water from a large bowl, and Rusty is slowly approaching him.

Quasi doesnā€™t seem too bothered.

Not even when the big pup starts drinking water right next to him.

Moments later, Rusty turns to his friend and starts licking his nose as if heā€™s trying to comfort him and assure him that everything is going to be fine.

The koala looks at him for a second, and then he goes back to drinking more water- what a hot day that must have been.

The sweet tender moment between the two buddies has melted hearts around the world and Facebook users couldnā€™t stop commenting about how this video touched their hearts.

ā€œGreat video mate. Put a smile on my face and Iā€™m sure many others. Hope you are well,ā€ someone wrote.
