German shepherd shows off smooth moves, dancing to her all-time favorite song

While dogs have been known to sing along to a favorite tune, the real question is, can they dance to it? Sure, we’ve all seen the talent shows where a dog seems to dance along on command, but somehow that is not quite the same to spontaneously moving to the beat of the music. A German shepherd named Jaxson Rose might be the first to be caught on camera moving to the riffs of her favorite song.

The video of the moment has gone viral on YouTube getting over 15 million views. The video opens with a view of Jaxson Rose sitting in the front seat of a car. Her owner, Stephanie Walton, is taking a video of her as the sound of “Low” by Flo Rida is heard in the background. All of a sudden, the beat seems to catch Jaxson Rose’s attention and she starts to get into the groove.

At first, just one of her ears starts to move, but eventually, both of her ears are moving to the beat of the popular song. Jaxson Rose became so popular for the video that she was asked to make an appearance on FOX’s Cause for Paws TV special which took place in Los Angeles, California, a far cry from her home in Marion, Indiana.

Truthfully, the whole video looks staged, with someone making Jaxson Rose’s ears move so deliberately. Regardless, the video is still hilarious, especially coupled with the nonchalant look on her face as it is happening. So, if Jaxson Rose is not getting down to the beat of the music, does that mean that dogs can’t dance?

Do dogs understand music?

It is a given that dogs can hear music and even have their favorite tunes that they sometimes like to sing along to. How your dog reacts to a particular song depends in large part on the type of music. Classical music, for example, promotes a sense of peace and calmness, while heavy metal music is more apt to make them act frustrated and start barking.

And while they often do have a favorite song or two, dogs do not dance. So, if you are expecting your dog to dance along with you, you will be sorely disappointed. Though you could train your dog to dance, but that is just not the same. This stems from the fact that training your dog to dance is a learned behavior and they are dancing on command and not on their own.
