Owner is upset when dog destroys his passport, turns out antics may have saved his life
The world is a strange and mysterious place sometimes. Sometimes it will throw you what seems like the worst of curveballs, only to later reveal that what seemed like a disaster was a blessing in disguise. This is something one young traveler knows all too well after her dog destroyed her passport just before a scheduled trip.
Though she was infuriated with her dog for chewing up her passport at first, when she realized that she’d been spared from heading straight toward a Coronavirus outbreak she quickly changed her tune.
The dog may very well have just saved her life!
The Golden Retriever dog’s name is Kimi, and we can’t help but wonder if she tore up the passport because she knew something her mother didn’t.
The reason Kimi’s hooman’s passport was left out in the first place was because she had been planning to fly to Wuhan, China. This was, of course, before the Chinese city had been dubbed “ground zero” for the Coronavirus outbreak. Looking back, Kimi’s mom believes that her dog’s impromptu chew sesh on her passport may have spared her life.
While it might be a stretch to say that the woman’s dog chewed the passport to intentionally save her, it’s also a good reminder that dogs do seem to have a sixth sense about certain situations that people don’t.
It was within a few days of Kimi chewing up her mom’s passport that the announcement of a Coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan had spread and that the city was on lockdown.
Thankfully, though, the dog’s mom wasn’t there because she was blocked from entering without her passport. Though she had been angry about the situation at first, she now couldn’t be any more grateful to her chew-happy dog.
“I was very angry when I saw my passport torn. And then I saw the news about the coronavirus spreading in Wuhan a few days later. I was thinking back to the day my passport was torn up.I hope people all over the world can survive this virus crisis. And we now have to wear masks and wash more and disinfect our hands when we go out,” Kimi’s owner said in an interview with Bored Panda.
When Kimi’s human had first realized what her dog had done to her passport, it was before news of the outbreak had spread. In a fit of anger mixed with frustrated amusement, the dog mom posted images of her very guilty looking dog with the shredded travel document to Facebook.
Since she had publicly shamed her for her no-good antics, Kimi’s mom only felt it right to post an update after learning about the Coronavirus outbreak.
“Do you guys remember the passport? Throwback: this kid is really protecting me. After my passport was torn apart, the virus began to go where I originally planned to go. I think about it now, and it’s very touching. Fortunately, you blocked our trip. Let’s have a safe reunion with family ❤️

Wuhan may be the Coronavirus epicenter, but it is a global concern.
Since the outbreaks first started late last year, 638 people have died as a direct result of infection by the virus, as estimated by the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control. As of this morning, there were 31,523 confirmed cases of infection, with another 7 confirmed cases being added in just the last several hours, rounding the total of people testing positive for Coronavirus to 31,530.
In addition to most of China’s mainland, 18 other countries have confirmed cases of the infection. Among them are Finland, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Cambodia, Singapore, Nepal, Malaysia, the UAE (United Arab Emirates), Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and the United States.
With a spread in numbers like that, it’s no wonder that Kimi’s owner is thanking her lucky stars that her dog had a hankering for chewing up her passport that day.
