Alaskan Malamute chained for its entire life is presented with an open field
Dogs are born to be free. A dog loves nothing more than to run and play. So when a dog is prevented from doing that, they are affected in a big way.
An Alaskan Malamute, named Biscuit, is one such dog. Confined to life on a chain, Biscuit finally got his chance to run free. His reaction is heartwarming.
Bred to pull sleds
More than other dogs, Alaskan Malamutes are bred for power and endurance. These amazing animals can pull snow sleds long distances, sometimes a hundred miles a day or more. Most amazing of all, they can do this for up to 10 days at a time. But, for Biscuit, this was not the case.
Confined to life on a chain
Biscuit had spent most of his life on a chain, not knowing what it was like to run and play. It was a shame as he had no idea what exactly he was missing, including the new sights and smells that life had to offer. But, after he was rescued from his horrible situation, all of that was about to change.
In a video shot of Biscuit’s first taste of freedom, you see the dog being led out by the collar by his new owner. And while he appears happy, his mood is about to get even better. He seems not to know what to do, but his new owner helps him by running along with him before releasing his collar.
Biscuit gets his first taste of freedom
Biscuit quickly gets the idea and soon is running across the open field. His excitement is so great that he gives a little bunny hop as he runs along. Eventually, he stops and is sniffing around. It is all so new to him.
You can tell his heart is bursting with joy as he takes off running again, going as fast as his legs will carry him.
Biscuit was beside himself with joy
Biscuit runs all around the perimeter of the field, not knowing where to go next. All biscuit knows is that he wants to keep running and never stop. He does have a lot of time to make up for after all.
Back and forth he runs, exploring everything he can in his newfound freedom.
Stopping animal neglect
Unfortunately, there are many dogs out there just like Biscuit, who are kept confined on a chain. Regardless of why a dog owner might do so, it is considered animal neglect to keep a dog on a chain all of the time. Dogs deserve the freedom to stretch their legs and enjoy life.
If you notice a dog in such a horrible condition, contact your local police department or animal control office. Make sure that you have some important information handy when you do contact someone, including the location of the dog, the owner’s name, if you know it, and the date and times of the neglect.
