Imagine being chained up for 6 years not knowing if you would ever enjoy freedom again. It’s heartbreaking to know that people treat dogs like this.

How could someone be so callous as to inflict this kind of suffering on an animal?

Yet it happens frequently.

Rescue organizations receive calls daily about mistreated animals including dogs chained up and only given a small amount of space in which to live.

It’s enough to make any animal lover break down and cry.

Theoklitos Proestakis saves these animals.

Better known as Takis, he runs the Takis shelter and works to rescue animals who have been mistreated.

He gave up his former profession as a disc jockey to help animals like the one in this story.

“The people, they think I’m crazy. But for me, when I see these dogs suffer from pain, they have a soul…so I want to help them. It makes me feel so good,” Takis is quoted as saying on the shelter’s website.

Takis receives a call about a dog chained up inside a small dog house.

After being notified of the situation, Takis went to investigate. When he arrived at the location he found Libby.

She was scared and shaking.

This was a dog who had likely never known love. Libby was chained to a small dog house and could only roam around her immediate area.

When Takis arrived, Libby moved to the back of the dog house.

Libby was scared of Takis at first.

Libby didn’t know why Takis was there. She had no way to know that he was there to help her. She didn’t trust humans.

Libby likely thought she was in danger. She would act aggressively anytime Takis tried to get close to her.

Libby had been chained her entire life.

All she knew was a world where she couldn’t roam free. She knew humans only as people that would abuse her.

Libby had never been given the love that all dogs deserve.

Takis decides to rescue Libby.

Takis knew he couldn’t leave Libby in the condition she was in. They took Libby with them and brought her back to the Takis shelter.

This was likely a frightening experience for her. She had no way of knowing she was being given her freedom.

After 3 months, Libby was a whole new dog.

It took a few months, but eventually, Libby was a dog filled with joy. She was walking and running everywhere.

Libby wanted to see everything and make new friends along the way. She had come a long way from that terrified dog Takis found chained to a dog house.

Libby adopts 3 orphaned puppies.

Something else wonderful happened for Libby after she was rescued.

Takis had also rescued 3 orphaned puppies recently and Libby’s motherly instincts kicked in when she met them.

The puppies started treating Libby as their mother and following her everywhere.

Libby was later adopted and given a forever home in Germany. The family she has loves her very much and is giving her the life that all dogs deserve.

Libby’s story has a very happy ending.
