Man asks for dog fund refund when dog passes away and is taken aback by company’s reply

Anyone who owns dogs knows that they’re family. They are special and deserve nothing but the best. That’s why their humans do everything they can to ensure their comfort, safety, and health.

When Laura Waltenburg’s brother’s dogs passed away, the family was devastated.

The dogs were close to their hearts. They treated them like family and did everything they could to make them feel happy and safe in their care.

Prior to their passing, their humans placed a feed order.

A couple of days after their death, the bags arrived. This triggered another wave of pain and grief.

Naturally, the human’s instinct was to return the food.

With no other dog in the house, the family has no other purpose for keeping the bags of dog food. So, they emailed the company and asked for a partial refund.

The company’s response shocked them.

In a post on Facebook, Laura shared:

“My sister and brother-in-law tragically lost both of their dogs this past weekend. After this happened they received two 40 pound bags of dog food that they had ordered from Chewy.com. My brother-in-law sent them an email requesting permission to send the dog food back for refund minus the shipping cost.”

Technically, the company had no obligation to issue a refund.

There was nothing wrong with bags. Everything was in perfect condition.

However, instead of focusing on their business, Chewy.com did something extraordinary for the family.

Laura recalled:

“They responded with unbelievable kindness. They credited their credit card for the full purchase price and asked them to donate the dog food to a local shelter.”

Their kindness didn’t end there.

“They sent a second email requesting a picture of one of the dogs to put in there [sic] memorial book to honor her. And then today my sister and brother-in-law received these beautiful flowers from Chewy.com,” Laura shared.

The company’s response to the man’s request warmed people’s hearts.

One Facebook user said:

“Oh, I’m so sorry to hear of their unexpected passing. It’s so comforting to know a company shows kindness and compassion not only for their human customers, but the ones we take care of, too. People over profit.”

There was also this person who shared her own experience with Chewy. She said:

“Always order from Chewy…I bought a squeaky toy to my dog and when I got it it didn’t squeak. I sent them a quick email just to let them know, didn’t ask for a refund or anything, they sent me a replacement within 24 hours and asked if I could donate the other one. Best company ever!!!”

Another Facebook user shared:

“We got the same response when we lost our Daisy … Chewy sent condolences, refunded the cost of our (pricy) renal food, and asked us to donate the food to a shelter. Such an amazing company.”

Reading these stories just warms the heart. They prove that there are still companies out there that aren’t greedy and focused on earning money. Surely, the company deserves a lot of respect for showing kindness to pets and their owners.
