Rescuers find abandoned pit bull stranded at the top of a tower in the middle of the jungle
Dogs are trusting animals. Unfortunately, some take advantage of this trust to goad an animal to remote locations only to abandon them. Most often this is in some out-of-the-way place where the abandoner has time to get away with their heinous act without getting caught.
But … imagine finding a dog at the top of a tower in the jungle.
The dog was found alone and scared at 3,500 feet
Skinny and exhausted, the dog, a pit bull, was found at the top of a stone tower on the island country of Puerto Rico. The tower was located at an elevation of 3,500 feet and had been at the location for who knows how long.
Rescuers attempted to get the dog the help he needed
Second Chance Animal Rescue of Puerto Rico, along with Animal Rescue Team Vega Baja was able to make its way through the jungle to the location. Working together, the two teams retrieved the abandoned dog and then made the 30-minute hike down the side of the mountain.
At one point, the poor malnourished and exhausted dog collapsed and had to be carried the rest of the way. Once out of the jungle, the dog was rushed to a local clinic to get medical care. It was there that the staff named him Ragnar.
Other odd locations dogs have been abandoned
Most of the time when people abandon their pets, they choose to do so at a dumping grounds or other places away from civilization, such as in a forest or rural area. In addition to the tower story mentioned above, one of the oddest and most heartless places a dog has been abandoned was in the garbage chute at a residential building in the Bronx, New York.
Fortunately, the New York Police Department was able to free the dog, who was also a pit bull, and he was treated for his injuries. Named Buckbeak, the pit bull was eventually adopted by a New York police chief.
What to do if you find an abandoned dog
If you come across an abandoned dog, you should take some precautions before approaching them. The dog is more than likely scared and might act aggressively if a stranger walks up to them. Only if they seem unaggressive should you approach them. Otherwise, call the authorities, including the police or animal control.
If you can approach the dog safely, look for a tag. If they have one and it has a phone number, call it to try and reach the owner. Chances are in this case that the dog has simply become lost. Failing that, you can take the dog to a local veterinarian or animal shelter.
Once there, they can check for a microchip, and if up to date, it should allow them to contact the dog’s owner. By taking the necessary precautions, you can hopefully reunite the dog with their owner or at least get them on the path to being adopted into a loving home.
You can watch the video below of the poor pit bull stuck in the tower.
