Dogs are known to get along with a wide variety of creatures. In many cases, they develop a relationship with other family pets, including other dogs, cats, and even birds.

But a dog named Milo is setting a new standard for animal friendship. He has become friends with the butterflies in his family’s garden.

Milo joins the family

At only 10 weeks old, Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever Milo, joined his owner Jennifer Bennet and her family after the passing of their family dog. Always a gentle and sweet soul, Milo loves to help out around the house, especially in the garden that the family owns.

Milo makes some new friends

In addition to plants, the garden also plays home to a wide variety of butterflies, which are attracted to the many varied plants and flowers found there. Milo, the friendly dog that he is, wasted no time in becoming the butterflies’ friend.

“We grow lots of food and flowers in our garden, so it is a wonderland for butterflies,” Bennett told The Dodo. “Two years ago, we started raising monarchs, which has been so fun. Milo loves to watch all the butterflies fly around.”

The butterfly whisperer

As a sign of how much the butterflies trust Milo, they often land on him to hang out. Gentle as he is, Milo sits there and lets them perch on him as long as they want.

“He is always patient when they land on him,” Bennett said. “He sees their process with me, from baby caterpillars to chrysalis then to butterflies. He knows they are our friends. He loves hanging out with the butterflies. We check the butterflies every morning.”

Milo is also very photogenic

In addition to his calm and sweet disposition, Milo is also good at posing for photos. So, when the butterflies start to land on him, his mom can catch some great photos of the dog and his friends.

Word must have gotten out about Milo’s friendly nature, because butterflies visit the family’s garden from all over, according to Bennet.

“We had millions of painted lady butterflies that migrated through our garden,” Bennett said. “It was like a cloud of butterflies coming though. He just kept looking up at them in wonder. Looking back and forth so fast to not miss any!”

Milo is always there with a friendly hello

As for Milo, he never misses an opportunity to greet any new friends who might just happen to visit. He always does his best to treat them gently and make sure that they are OK whenever they come around.

In addition to his own cooking show on YouTube, Milo also has his own Instagram page, where his mom posts photos of him and the butterflies he loves so much.
