Dog gets own intro sign after family discovers how much she loves greeting people

Most dogs get along with people that they meet, some more than others. Take Potato for instance. Potato is a little corgi who can’t get enough of the people around her, especially the neighbors. Everywhere Potato goes, she can’t help but say hi.

A big personality to go along with her small size

“Her personality is like a door greeter at a grocery store,” Cee, Potato’s parent, told The Dodo.

Potato’s attraction to the people around her started at the young age of six months old. Even at that young age, she would sit outside all day waiting for m someone to walk by. Then she would run out to the fence for them to pet her. Then the pandemic hit and her family worried no one would want to pet her.

Crafting Potato a sign

So, they took matters into their own hands. They fashioned a sign for Potato to let passerby know that they could pet her.

“We wanted to reassure people it was OK to pet her,” Cee said. “Plus, she was getting depressed from the sudden lack of attention. She started barking at people she knew who normally pet her who had stopped. And we figured it would be a nice way to be connected to our neighbors and to help people feel a little less lonely during this weird time.”

But they didn’t want to make just any sign, they decided to craft something that would be perfect for her and showcase her friendly personality. Then they placed it on the fence outside of the house that they share with Potato. Soon, people were stopping by to pet Potato every day.

The pandemic didn’t stop people from stopping by

It seemed that though a pandemic was going on, people still needed to get out of the house, even if just for a walk. This was perfect for Potato who loves when people stop by to pet her.

“I first met Potato walking with my girlfriend in our neighborhood,” Sean Carr, one of Potato’s neighbors, said. “With COVID, my photography business was basically shut down, and she was working from home. We’d walk around looking at houses and all of the flowers and plants. One day we noticed the sign and that sweet little Potato. We’ve probably gone by at least once a week since to see if Potato is out.”

A waiting line

In fact, it seems the sign has increased the number of people that stop by, not that Potato is complaining. She loves to meet all of the people that stop by to say hello to her every day. Her family is just glad that she is so happy.

“People have been waiting 6 feet apart in a line on really nice days,” Cee said. “We are thinking of getting those spacer circles for the ground on the sidewalk. Sometimes people call her name in the yard while she’s indoors, and she anxiously rings her door bell to go out because she doesn’t want to miss them. If it’s a nice day and not raining and we’re home, she’s out there all day, from 10 a.m. to sunset.”

Devoted to her fans

Of course, Potato still likes to spend time with her family too. But she does have a responsibility to the people who stop by and see her every day. She would never shirk her duty to all of her adoring fans. Potato’s mom, though, is sure that she prefers her fans over her family. Then again, it is all in a day’s work and Potato does have a reputation to uphold.
