Aren’t Golden Retrievers such sweet pups?

Any dog lover would agree that golden retrievers belong to the dog breeds known for being very friendly and playful. They simply like to have fun and enjoy active bonding moments with their family.

Their smile simply melts anyone’s heart.

The way their mouths look makes people think that they are always smiling. And who knows? Maybe they actually love to smile and are born to give such a sweet expression to anybody they meet.

Golden retrievers grow up to be big dogs, but their size is not threatening. If anything, their size and furry bodies make them the perfect pup to hug when you are feeling tired, sad, or simply want to have a companion to be around you.

On the Retriever Advice website, they explain:

“A Golden Retriever may “smile” for different reasons depending on what behavior they are actually exhibiting that we interpret as a smile. Snarling is sometimes called an “aggressive smile;” the opposite of that is a “submissive smile.” Finally, a Golden Retriever may merely appear to be smiling even while its expression is neutral such as while panting.”

When they pant, they look like they are smiling very wide and this gives them a very friendly and approachable vibe. They look like they are grinning widely and this expression simply warms the heart.

But, like any other dogs, they can also act aggressively when threatened.

Golden Retrievers are also capable of gnarling their teeth when they are faced with dangerous people or situations. They bare their teeth and will act instinctively to protect themselves.

Most of the time, this breed is in a good mood and provides a friendly attitude to people. They are known to be used to being surrounded by people and are perfect to bring in crowded and highly active areas.

Golden Retrievers are mindful of their surroundings and are one of the best breeds to be assisting people with limited abilities.

Another familiar look of a Golden Retriever is when they smile happily and squint their eyes. This is when they are being submissive.

Retrievers Hub says:

“This is less rare than the aggressive smile but is still seen much less often than the happy smile. I would say that about 80% of your golden retriever smiles are going to be happy smiles with the remaining 20% divided evenly between the other two smiles.”
