Birthdays always make people excited, but nothing beats it when you get a surprise on your special day.

The traditional birthday surprises that most of us know are usually gifts like a new phone, a new laptop, or even a new car.

But the best gifts aren’t things.

Nowadays, birthday surprises can now be reuniting with a family member, a wedding proposal, or welcoming a new member of the family.

And when we say a new member of the family, it could either be a human or a furry creature like a dog.

That’s what exactly happened to a woman while she was on her ‘birthday getaway’.

A birthday surprise she’ll never forget.

This year, Tyler Hagood decided to give his wife, Brianna, a weekend getaway as her birthday present.

The couple was ecstatic about it because it’s one way to be far from the busy city’s hustle and bustle.

While they were on their trip, they felt like picking up some snacks so they decided to order some food at a McDonald’s drive-through.

There, the birthday celebrant noticed a dog wandering around the parking lot.

Interestingly enough, the pooch had no collar, so she thought it was a stray.

Was it fate or circumstance?

Brianna just couldn’t take her eyes off the poor dog, it’s like her inner conscience was telling her, “Take that dog home with you.”

“I looked at Tyler and said, ‘BABE!’” she told The Dodo while trying to recall what happened. “He looked and me and said, ‘No, honey, let’s just go to the beach.’ As he continued to the window, I slightly raised my voice in excitement, remembering, ‘I can save that dog if I want to because it’s my birthday!’ The cashier opening the window looked shocked at first, then looked at Tyler and said, ‘She should save that dog. It’s her birthday and it’s been here all morning!’ That was all the encouragement I needed.”

Brianna hopped out of the car and tried to hang out with the dog, even just for a short while.

Surprisingly, the pooch walked straight up to her with its tail wagging so happily.

Right at that magical moment, she knew she had to bring the dog home with her.

“Tyler got our food and pulled out of the drive-through and parked the car next to where I was sitting with the goodest boy,” Hagood said. “I opened the car door and asked if he wanted to come in, and before I finished asking, he had jumped in my car and was sitting down … There was never a decision for me. When I got out of my car, I knew I was not leaving this pup on the side of the road.”

To make sure they weren’t bringing somebody else’s dog, they tried looking for its rightful owners.

The Hagoods asked establishments around about the dog but everyone said the same thing, the dog just popped up there that morning.

The couple even stopped at a vet clinic to see if the dog was microchipped, but he wasn’t.

No collar, no tag, no microchip, and no owner?

They next went into Walmart and bought the dog supplies that he would need if ever he decides to join their birthday beach weekend.

As fate would have it, they booked a dog-friendly room at a hotel since their original plan was to bring their new pup with them.

Was it love at first sight?

Who wouldn’t fall in love with such an adorable and well-behaved dog like him?

“While I was brushing my teeth and getting ready for bed, I heard Tyler playing with him,” Brianna said. “When I walked out of the bathroom, Tyler had invited the pup onto the bed and he was snuggling with him … Although this may not have been his ideal weekend, he knew it was mine, and he knew I would not have had a good time if I was worried about a pup.”

The following day, the three went off to celebrate Brianna’s special day by doing activities like boat riding.

That day felt extra special because they were joined by a surprise furry companion who felt nothing but belongingness with them.

Unfortunately, they had to say goodbye.

It was a short-lived happiness because they found the dog’s owners.

On a Facebook post by Brianna, someone commented and claimed that they’re the dog’s family.

On their way home, the couple did the right thing by dropping the dog off at his rightful owners’ house.

They soon found out his name was Blu and that he ran away from home after escaping his family’s yard.

It was a bitter-sweet moment, especially for Brianna who instantly fell in love with her new-found furry friend.

Ultimately though, she was extremely happy that she was able to bring Blu back to his family. Little did they know, their story was still far from over.

The stars aligned for Blu and Brianna, because the dog’s family reached out to the Hagoods that same week.

The family figured out that they could no longer keep up with Blu’s wants and needs that’s why they asked the Hagoods to adopt him.

Without thinking twice, the couple agreed to the kind offer.

“Blu came to our home on Thursday, and he fits right in,” Hagood said. “He stays right by my hip at all times … He is the bestest boy, and we love him.”

Everyone was happy with how this beautiful story ended and we can’t wait to see what’s next for the Hagoods and Blu, who they later on named Snoopy.
