It’s said that cats and dogs are enemies.

The two species have been pitted against each other time and time again. Their rivalry has even bled into human interactions when people ask the question “Are you a dog person or a cat person?”

Each species brings a different personality to the table, so it makes sense that many people believe these animals wouldn’t get along. However, one video on YouTube demonstrates how that is simply not the case.

The video shows a German Shepherd and a kitten climbing up a staircase together.

The dog is quite large and has no trouble at all, immediately bounding up the steps like it’s no problem. His tiny friend did not such an easy time getting up those steps and is seen clearly struggling to follow him. Eventually, the Shepherd gets tired of waiting and decides to help the kitten.

The kitten flinches when he first goes to pick it up.

I mean, I think that is understandable. I know I would be frightened if someone bigger than me decided to pick me up by the scruff of my neck. It takes a bit of patience, but the kitten finally allows the dog to pick him up by his scruff.

The German Shepherd is unbelievably gentle with the kitten as it walks up the stairs and sets him back down onto the floor.

The internet approves of his actions.

The description of the video reads:

“Tennyson the German Shepherd watched as of his newly adopted kitten struggled to hop upstairs. He immediately leapt into action and carried him up to the top, then proceeded to cuddle with him.”

A quick scroll through the comment section proves that everyone is impressed with the dog’s gentle yet persisting behavior.

“Dog made so many attempts to lift the kitten, only to make sure that he doesn’t hurt the little one,” said one commenter.

Other commenters commented on the soft little nudge given to the kitten at the top of the stairs. They claim that it seems like he is apologizing for the rough mode of transportation. The kitten seemed startled at first, but he soon recovers with a quick snuggle from his dog brother.

This behavior is more common than you might think.

Some people in the comments shared similar experiences with their own dogs.

“This reminds me of when my Pitbull came in from outside, opened her mouth and out came a tiny kitten,” said one commenter. “Wet but perfectly fine. The Pit then went back out and brought 3 more home. Turned out the Momma cat had died, possibly right after giving birth. And the Pitty found the babies and brought them home. To this day, the Pitty treats those cats as her pups. Still holding them down for a bath.”

It’s always nice to see how much animals help each other out.

I think it all goes to show the incredible empathy that animals possess. There has been no update on these fluffy friends, but everyone seems to think that they have become great friends.
