Dog is hailed as a hero after protecting toddler for 10 days in the Siberian wilderness
Dogs are usually pretty protective of the families who own them. Some have even been known to place themselves in danger to keep family members free from harm. One dog went above and beyond, staying with a young child for 10 days and protecting her while she was lost in the wild.
Korina and her dog shared a special bond
Three-year-old Korina Chikitova of the Sakha Republic in Russia loved her family dog Kyrachaan. The two were seldom apart and would often play together at Korina’s home. One day her father was called away to fight some nearby wildfires. With her mother working in the fields in a nearby village, he thought it best to leave the young girl with her grandmother until his return.
Korina tried to follow her father
Korina had other ideas, however, because she tried to follow her father. Her grandma assumed Korina’s father had decided to take her with him and thought nothing more of it. It was only after Korina’s mother returned that she learned of the little girl’s absence. Confused, Korina’s mother traveled four days to contact her husband. There, he confirmed her fears: her little girl was missing and no one knew where she was.
Korina was lost in the wilderness
Korina’s mother called the police, and soon the search was on for the lost girl. At the forefront of everyone’s mind was that the area in which Korina was lost was inhabited by wolves and bears. Everyone feared the worst. Fortunately, Korina had a faithful companion by her side – Kyrachaan, who had followed her into the woods.
Korina and Kyrachaan had a will to survive
Amazingly, as everyone searched for the lost girl, the two were able to survive on their own in the wilderness for 10 days. For food, the pair subsisted on wild berries and drank from a nearby river. How Korina knew which berries to eat was a mystery. Fortunately, they weren’t poisonous.
To keep warm, Korina and her dog cuddle together at night. However, at some point, Kyrachaan decided it was time to get help and left the Korina in some tall grass while he went back home. When the dog arrived, Korina’s family was dismayed to see that Korina was not with him – but the canine immediately led them to her location.
Korina was found weak but okay
Although Korina was weak, she was still alive and was taken to receive medical attention. Everyone said it was a miracle that she was able to survive so long in the Siberian wild.
Kyrachaan was hailed as a hero
Kyrachaan was hailed as a hero for his good deed. If not for him, chances are Korina would not have survived.
