Dog hides new kitten from family so no one else can play with him
It is every pet owner’s dream to see their furry friends getting along at home. No one wants to see cats and dogs fighting, even though cartoons always portray them that way.
And they can get along, as long as proper research and care is done. One quick search and you’ll find countless stories of cats and dogs who get along and are even the best of friends.
This is one such story.
Colleen Harrison and her family love animals. They adopted a little kitten named Casper, but since they also had a few dogs, they weren’t sure how they would react to the newcomer.
It is the same cause of concern for pet owners who bring home a new family member.
Their pittie named Minnie actually loves caring for tiny animals. But it was the family’s other dog, Rex, who fell in love with Casper. Almost like it was love at first sight.
And with pets, it is an overload of cuteness!
Rex is way younger than Minnie the pit. This dog loves to play, so it’s a good thing then that he and Casper have similar energy levels.
These two are often found goofing around and once they’re all burned out, end up snuggling together the rest of the day. Rex was a little protective too, not allowing anyone else to play with the new kitten.
Rex wasn’t enthusiastic about it.
“At first, Rex didn’t like anyone coming near the kitten,” Harrison shared. “He was very protective of him. He’s the same way with our children. Anytime the kitten or our kids are out of Rex’s sight or in another room he can’t get to, he just sits close by whining for them.”
That’s got to be a really admirable trait.
Rex would even hide Casper when they were all snuggled up together. He would literally try to hide the tiny kitten, his best friend, from the rest of the family.
But little Casper is a cat which means the feline can get a little too wiggly to remain hidden for a long time.
Rex loves his friend Casper so much. The dog is super protective that he refuses to share his feline friend with anyone else. This good boy eventually understood that he has to share.
So he began to warm up to the idea that others may want to play with Casper the cat too.
“Rex doesn’t mind others holding or playing with the kitten now, but he does keep an eye on him at all times,” Harrison said.
The saying “They fight like cats and dogs” isn’t always true.
Dogs and cats can form fast friendships and make it last. It is not an inborn animosity wherein they are wired to just hate each other. Life experiences with members of the other species dictate how cats and dogs feel about each other when they meet.
It’s all in the initial meeting. Like Rex and Casper when they first met. These two were seemingly destined to be best friends for life.
