Sweet golden retriever needs to hug every person she meets

Dogs love to be petted and rubbed. In many cases, this is all it takes to make them happy. One dog in Manhattan, though, has taken the showing of affection to a whole new level.
Louboutina, or Loubie for short, has taken it upon herself to hug every person she comes across.
Loubie is very affectionate

“It’s just not a regular walk,” Loubie’s owner, Fernandez-Chavez told The Dodo. “It’s a walk with hugging. So, we don’t get to go too far.”
According to Cesar Fernandez-Chavez, it all started with holding hands. Loubie began doing this on one Valentine’s Day after Fernandez-Chavez had ended a relationship.
“She started sitting up and grabbing my hands with both of her paws, and then crossing the other paw over her paw,” Fernandez-Chavez said. “I remember joking with my friends, ‘At least I have someone to hold hands with during Valentine’s.'”
It started with holding hands

After a few years of this cute behavior, Loubie took it to the next stage. The lovable dog began wrapping her legs around Fernandez-Chavez’s legs and hugging him.
“Instead of asking me to do the holding hands thing, she just sat up, very close to my legs, and she’d wrap her legs around my knees,” Fernandez-Chavez says. “I thought, ‘This is weird. What’s going on?’ But I let her do it.”
Spreading the love

Before too long, Loubie began giving other people hugs too. At first, this was just neighbors that she would meet while out on their walks together, but over time that changed. Soon she was giving hugs to random people she would meet on the street.
Loubie becomes a social media star

People loved Loubie’s hugs, and soon she was a social media star. Fernandez-Chavez began finding pictures all across the Internet showing Loubie hugging one person or the other. But not everybody warrants a hug. Loubie must make a connection with the people she hugs, according to Fernandez-Chavez.
“Sometimes people run up and ask for a hug, but I tell them, ‘I don’t think it’s going to happen,’ because she has to bond with that person first,” he said. “But when she sits next to someone, then I say, ‘You’re probably going to get a hug.’”
Loubie loves to spread joy and cheer

As for Loubie, she seems to realty love hugging people. Fernandez-Chavez feels like she wouldn’t do it if she didn’t. And the joy it spreads to those that she hugs is clear by their expression.
“It’s nice to see people walk away with a smile,” Fernandez-Chavez says. “Especially with everything that is happening now, people say it’s so good to see this on the street. She’s bringing them joy. It’s very rewarding.”
Fernandez-Chavez created an Instagram page for Loubie where people can look at all of the pictures of her giving people hugs. For more of Loubie and her loving nature, watch the video below.
