Dog dropped at kill shelter for way he walked shows a little love can go a long way

Fenix and his sister Nube were born with a brain disorder that presented a lot of challenges for them in their early days. Both brother and sister were born with a condition called cerebellar hypoplasia. This meant that his cerebellum wasn’t formed properly when he was little.

The pair were brought to a kill shelter and were going to be put down. At the time, they were not even able to stand up.

Zoey and Eric tell Fenix’s story.

Fenix and Nube were about to be put down when the shelter contacted the “I Stand with my Pack” rescue group. The group took the pair in, helped them gain some weight, and prepare them for possible adoption.

Fenix still could not walk in a straight line and could not run without falling down, however. Over time, however, he’s gotten more coordinated. Fenix has developed his own style of walking that is somewhat similar to how a pony prances.

Fenix goes for 5 walks a day.

Fenix can’t go for very long walks but he does go for them quite often. He gets tired pretty easily, however. Fenix loves his walks. His family says that after they bring him home from one, it is usually only about an hour until they find him waiting by the door for his next one.
