Molly went through something that no mother should have to go through. Luckily, she found a second chance from an unlikely place.

When Molly got pregnant, her owners, Elle and Sara Moyle, were overjoyed.

Molly had always been an amazing dog, and the idea of having a group of little Mollys in the world sounded exciting. But it was not to be.

All of the puppies were stillborn. Molly could not have done anything to change what happened. But she was clearly devastated.

The once happy and carefree Molly would now just lie down on her own all day. Whenever her owners took her out for a walk, Molly would just want to go back inside as soon as possible. But then something happened to brighten Molly’s spirits again.

Sara brought Molly to the backyard one day while she read. Molly was sitting sadly next to Sara, when something got her attention.

The dog walked up to a strange creature in the yard. When she got close to it, she started licking it. Sara was confused and then worried when the thing climbed onto Molly’s back. So she ran over to see if her dog was in danger.

Sara saw that it was a small baby possum.

Clearly, the creature had been abandoned by its mother. But Molly had undoubtedly formed an attachment with the strangely cute animal.

In the coming days, Molly and the possum stuck together.

At first, her owners were worried about the creature. But then they looked possums up online and learned that they were gentle animals. So the owners decided that Molly could keep the creature for a while. After all, it was doing them both a world of good!

“They’re an unlikely pair. I think that possum thought that Molly was her mother and vice versa.” – Elle Moyle.

The possum, named Poss, is nocturnal. So she sleeps most of the day. She always stays in a tree in the Moyle’s yard. Molly always waits for her under that tree.

And when it gets dark or Poss is feeling lonely, the possum climbs down and cuddles with her adopted mommy.

And Molly often carries Poss around on her back, showing her all of the things that she has found in the yard. It’s incredibly heartwarming to witness.

Of course, one day Poss will grow up and likely become more independent. But for now, she and Molly have become an amazing mother and daughter duo. The two have already helped each other overcome terrible circumstances.

A local news team heard about Molly and Poss’s unlikely story and arrived at their owners’ home to document it.

A report of the animals then made its way online, where it made quite an impact. The views racked up on different sites. On Twitter, many different people were keen to comment on how amazing the story was. People have been saying things like this:

It just goes to show that animals can be much more like humans than we realize.

Most people only consider adoption to be a thing that humans do. But this story shows that to be untrue.

Lots of people can learn from Molly and Poss. They love each other despite their superficial differences. If they can do that, then all humans should also be able to accept one another.
