Golden retriever thinks the vet’s office is his very own personal playground

If you own a dog, then you know how much some of them hate going to the vet. Some dogs will even go to extreme measures to avoid going, including lying down, refusing to get into the car, or simply shunning the person taking them to the vet. There is at least one golden retriever that loves to go to the vet’s office for a visit, and he shows it by the way he acts once he’s there.

While many dogs try to avoid going to the vet, one golden retriever has decided to take it all in stride. He seems so happy as he comes through the front door of the vet’s office, running all over the waiting room as if he was playing in the park. If you look closely, you can even see that he has little, red running shoes on.

His antics were captured in a video and show him running back and forth. He starts at one end of the long hall and dashes to the other end before turning around and heading back the other way. As he runs, he carries his leash in his mouth. The safety-conscious, yet playful pup, entertains the staff at the office by running back and forth a few times.

Soon, the vet comes out in her white coat. At this point, the playful dog circles around her happily. The dog knows who she is and is so happy to see her. He then runs into her office, but not for long, as he scurries out once again to take another turn around the waiting room.

If only all dogs were this happy to see the vet, it might make visits there a little more relaxing. Eventually, the dog runs out of steam, but not before he lets everyone know how happy he is to be at the vet.

How to make your vet visits less stressful

It is understandable for your dog to not want to go to the vet, but they still need to remain healthy. Luckily, you have some things you can do to make a trip to the vet less stressful for your dog and much easier on you. Some of the steps you can take include:

  • Take your dog for a walk before going to the vet. This allows your dog to burn off some of their nervous energy.
  • Place your dog in a carrier if they are small enough. You can also throw in a favorite blanket or toy to help comfort them.
  • Comfort your dog while in the waiting room. Do this by talking to your dog in a soothing tone. Make sure to keep your dog on your lap, if small enough, or by your side.
  • Avoid peak hours. Your dog can often pick up on the nervous energy of other dogs around him. To avoid this, plan your visit in the afternoon when many vet offices are the slowest.
  • Get your dog used to the vet by taking them in more frequently. This can be for something as simple as getting your dog weighed and checked. This also allows your dog to get used to being around the vet.

Making your dog comfortable is important

By making sure that your dog is comfortable with their vet and keeping visits as relaxing as possible, you can ensure that your dog’s visits to the vet are as stress-free as possible. At least in the case of this golden retriever, he is as happy as can be to visit one of his most favorite places. You can watch the video of his adorable romp through his vet’s office below.
