Edie Mayo was just doing what he did for his beloved dog every day. He had no idea that he would inspire people across the world.
It all started when the producer of a Houston news channel, Doug Delony, started going to Discovery Green Park.
Every day, he would see a man walking a dog in a stroller.
Then, he would lift the dog out and help him sniff around.
The dog was obviously incredibly old. But the man would always go above and beyond to give that dog a good experience.
One day, Delony decided to take a picture of the man taking the dog out of the stroller.
He uploaded the photo to his Facebook page and explained how the man was always so caring of his senior dog.
Then the post went viral. Soon, hundreds of thousands of people had seen this photo and praised the man for taking such great care of his dog.
Naturally, the news team decided to make a story about this man and his dog.
They found out that the man’s name was Edie Mayo, and the dog was called Max. Was was 16 and had been blind for a couple of years. But he still loved going to the park every day, even if he wasn’t as energetic as he used to be.
Mayo then invited the reporters into his home to show how they took care of Max in his old age. Max had a huge part of his owners’ apartment just for himself.
And Mayo’s partner, Troy Griffin, revealed that for a 16-year-old dog, Max was healthy. Of course, the reason was because the owners had done such a good job of taking care of him!
Griffin also revealed that she doesn’t believe that anyone should turn their back on anyone else just because they are elderly.
In addition to this, Griffin revealed that while Max was old, he was still interested in the female dogs at the park, especially poodles!
And then that news report also went viral! Soon, people all over the world were sending in pictures of their senior dogs.
Then Mayo and Griffin started getting gifts in the mail.
The first gift came from Illinois. It was a medal of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals.
Naturally, Mayo and Griffin still kept on taking Max to the park. But there was one big difference since the report. Now large crowds were gathering to see Max. He had become a celebrity and everyone wanted to meet him!
“They just wanted to see Max, not us, but Max. And that makes me happy.” – Troy Griffin.
Hopefully, Max will have many more years of visiting the park. His owners should be applauded for going the extra mile for their family member.
Of course, there’s a lot that goes into caring for a senior dog, but it’s worth it!
As well as taking them to the park, you have to watch your dog’s diet more closely, take them to the vet more often, make sure that your dog isn’t overworking his joints on stairs and keep your home nice and warm!
