Scared dog who’d been missing over 2 years perks ears hearing familiar voice on phone

Our dogs going missing is something pet owners everywhere worry about. We’ve all experienced not being able to find them before and it can be very anxiety-provoking.

Some dog owners have the even worse experience of losing a pet and not ever returning home. The heartbreak that must involve is hard to imagine. Not just for us, but for our dogs as well.

We are the whole world to our pets and when we’re gone, it is very difficult for them.

This is the story of one dog who went missing for more than 2 years but thankfully had a heartwarming reunion with his owner.

It started with a phone call.

Bosco goes missing.

Bosco is a beagle mix who loves to explore. Unfortunately, he got loose one day and went exploring and didn’t come back home.

He was lost with no idea how to get back. How terrifying this must have been for him. How hard it must have been for his owner as well.

Bosco was gone for 764 days.

In total, Bosco was gone for 764 days. Without his human around, he survived by hanging around local restaurants in Rhode Island and waiting for scraps.

He’d have to eat out of the garbage just to get enough nourishment.

Unfortunately, Bosco’s story is hardly unique.

This happens to dogs all the time. It’s an important reminder to always make sure your pet is microchipped should someone turn them into a shelter.

Shelter workers find Bosco.

One day Bosco went looking for some food and found a tasty treat. The food happened to be located inside a cage set by volunteers from a local shelter.

Once Bosco wandered inside to get the food, the cage door was closed behind him and he was off to the shelter.

The shelter workers were able to determine that Bosco belonged to a man named Bill Ballato, who missed him very much.

Bill had moved to Colorado.

In the 2 years that had passed, Bosco’s owner had moved to Colorado from his home in Rhode Island. The shelter workers decided to organize a video call between Bill and Bosco.

Bosco had the most adorable reaction to his owner’s image and voice. That was his family. After so long he had finally found his family!

Volunteer drives Bosco to Bill.

Bill is disabled and was not able to make the trip to Rhode Island but a kind-hearted volunteer named Sheila Graham offered to drive the dog back to his owner.

She started a GoFundMe to pay for the trip and wrote the following:

“It was an amazing trip, weather tried to stop us, and it was nasty. Nothing could stop our determination to bring him home … Thanks again for everything … To keep up to date with Bosco’s continued journey, be sure to visit him on FB – Bosco’s Journey Home. We will be updating photos, stories, links about all of this once time allows. For now, Bosco is acclimating well. Way to go Team Bosco …”
