Sad dog missing for over 2 years hears a familiar voice over the phone
The number of cases concerning missing home pets like dogs keep on racking up every single day. And a missing dog simply means a troubled owner who is worried sick thinking about their on-the-loose furry companion.
Back in 2014, that’s what exactly happened to Bosco’s owner, Bill Ballato, when he was still a resident of Rhode Island. The beagle mix ran away from home and didn’t manage to go back home.
The search is ON.
Ballato lived in a small town and finding Bosco could’ve been easy since almost everyone knew the members, including the dogs, in their community. However, that wasn’t the case because no one among them saw the runaway dog.
So, to hasten up his search, Ballato put up missing posters and reached out to the authorities, and animal shelters. Sadly, he ended up empty-handed despite his efforts. And just a few months after Bosco went missing, unfortunately, he had to relocate to Lafayette.
That also meant he’d never see his beloved dog ever again.
Miracles and guardian angels.
We are lucky to have people who are willing to go above and beyond just to make the world a better place for dogs who have once lost their faith in humanity. One of them is Sheilah Graham, a resident of the same small Rhode Island town where Bosco and Ballato used to live together.
As fate would have it, she spotted the missing dog wandering around. Turns out, for the past 2 years, he had been on the streets scraping for food and fighting to survive.
Graham recognized the dog and decided to capture him, so she lured the dog in using nothing but what he’d been missing – treats!
“Bosco played a good game of chess. But I love chess, so it’s just a matter of narrowing down his playing field,” she said.
Then soon after, the miracle Ballato had been longing to happen finally turned into a reality.
“I received a message from a friend of mine that is a Wesley, R.I., police officer saying, ‘Hey, I saw Bosco last night’,” Ballato said.
Away but never apart.
When the missing dog was finally at the shelter, they arranged a video call for Bosco and Bellato and hoped the dog could still recognize his owner. As it turns out, 2 years was just a number because the dog still knew the voice of the man he considered his dad.
Both of them were excited to see each other again, it was just a matter of figuring out how. So, Graham stepped up and offered help, she even created a GoFundMe to help finance the trip from Rhode Island to Lafayette, Colorado.
When everything was set, Graham drove for 36 hours just to make the reunion happen. Graham doesn’t work for a rescue, but she volunteers with Missing Dogs of Massachusetts. She said all of the reunions that she’d witnessed were local, until that day.
“It was an amazing trip, weather tried to stop us, and it was nasty. Nothing could stop our determination to bring him home … Thanks again for everything … To keep up to date with Bosco’s continued journey, be sure to visit him on FB – Bosco’s Journey Home. We will be updating photos, stories, links about all of this once time allows. For now, Bosco is acclimating well. Way to go Team Bosco …”
It was an emotional reunion for the two and for Graham too, for witnessing such love between a human and a dog. Hopefully, there will be more people like her who would unhesitatingly help without asking for anything in return.
