There aren’t many things in the world that are as loyal, pure and warm as a trusty four-footer. These immensely adorable creatures will brighten up everyone’s day, and the saying that a dog is a man’s best friend certainly isn’t an exaggeration. Who wouldn’t want to have such an amazing affectionate and friendly animal in their home as companionship?

Tragically, sometimes loving owners and their pets abruptly get separated from each other, which is what happened to Pakita and her human dad Ariel Naveira.

Pakita suddenly went missing two years ago, and her owner couldn’t find her at home anymore.

It’s believed that Pakita somehow managed to get outside, and couldn’t find her way back home, at all.

Shortly after she disappeared, someone was kind enough to take the stray dog to the Arca Animal refuge in Argentina. The person who found her said that she was aimlessly wandering the streets, and the animal organization figured that she actually didn’t have a home. Little did they know that her owner Ariel was waiting for her, but there was no microchip to identify her.

Volunteer Silvia Ferreyra took care of the pooch at the refuge, but he couldn’t help but notice that Pakita was in a depressed and timid mood most of the time. Nobody wanted to take her home and adopt her.

“People prefer puppies,” Ferreyra said to The Dodo. “So, for two years, she stayed with us.”

Even taking a picture of the dog for her adoption profile proved to be difficult, Pakita was incredibly timid.

However, the shelter staff never gave up on her and tried to find her a loving forever home.

They managed to take a few pictures after all and posted it on their social media profiles. Almost right away, they received a message that completely shocked them.

“Immediately, we get a message from a woman saying that the dog was her son’s and that he had been looking for her!” Ferreyra told.

The day after, Ariel came to the shelter to see if this was really his four-footer that he lost over two years ago.

It’s almost been three years, and when the animal shelter staff set up the reunion, it didn’t go according to plan at first. Poor Pakita was incredibly withdrawn and still timid, especially when the man started coming closer and approached her.

Pakita was still reluctant to interact.

Until she took a sniff and realized that Ariel smelled like home.

“From that moment there was no doubt,” the man concluded.

“It was beautiful. I was sad to lose her, but to get her back was spectacular. There are no words to describe it.”

There truly aren’t enough words to express how heartfelt and touching this reunion between a man and his best friend was. Pakita’s adorable smile came back the very second she recognized her owner.

“We are super happy,” the man said.

Even after such a long time, this story is proof that people should never give up hope. What an incredible reunion!
