Dog mourns his friends who pass by laying on their graves

This three-legged rescue dog has a very admirable human trait. He knows how to mourn for his friends should one of them pass away and cross the rainbow bridge.

This dog lives in an animal sanctuary in Mineral Bluff, Georgia.

Lester Aradi is the owner and says that animals have a “sense of loss” that they all need to work through. They’re really not that different from us.

Tricycle, the Golden Retriever, is known to mourn the loss of his animal friends at the Horse Creek Stable Rescue Sanctuary.

It all started four years ago.

A rescued St. Bernard-mastiff mix named Major came to the farm with severe back issues caused by abuse. The poor dog actually lost the ability to walk.

As horrible as his condition was, Major became friends with Tricycle.

Major eventually passed away so Lester and his wife, Diane, buried the dog in a makeshift plot located on the farm.

Tricycle was there with them but it wasn’t until the next day when the couple realized how heartbroken their dog was over his friend’s death.

When the couple woke up the next day and went out to the yard, they saw Tricycle lying on Major’s grave.

“It touched us so much that we posted pictures on Facebook,” Lester shared.

Tricycle would come inside when he needed to but he would still go to the grave and lay on it when he went back out. The dog would grieve for about three days.

“He normally spends his day laying on the gravesite until he comes in at night,” Lester said.

Tricycle is the subject of this book. He lives with other animals with special needs on the farm. We’re talking horses, goats, alpacas, llamas, and many other dogs who need extra care.

And recently, another of his friends left this world. A 21-year-old alpaca named Trixie.

Lester and Diane, the owners of Horse Creek Stable Rescue Sanctuary, found Tricycle once again lying down on the grave of his friend.

As heartbreaking as it was, seeing Tricycle mourn his loved ones makes one think. Some animals do have the same emotional capacity as we do.

Tricycle feels deeply and does mourn his friends.

“Every animal that has passed over the Rainbow Bridge has been buried on our farm so their spirits can live on where they spent the latter years of their lives,” Lester said.

The graves for cats and dogs are marked with a circle of stones. The bigger graves are planted with fruit trees to “continue the circle of life.”

When those trees bear fruit, visitors are allowed to pick apples, cherries, and pears.

It’s how they remember their friends long gone. And it is a wonderful reminder of how precious life is with them.

Losing a friend hurts. And it takes a long time to heal and move on. Tricycle’s grieves like us, his poor heart weighed down by the sadness of losing his friends.

This beautiful dog deserves all the love and affection in the world.
