Dog is suddenly paralyzed but mom wouldn’t give up til she made full recovery
Bringing home a dog after a long process of adoption is a wonderful experience. After the long wait, you’ll be able to take care of your dog and give him the best life possible.
When Avanti Fernandes adopted a Great Dane, she was ecstatic.
The puppy was perfectly healthy. For the first four months, Olive was just like any other puppy. She would jump, run around, and play.
As a happy puppy, she was full of energy. She would greet her owner at the door, play with her, and patiently wait for her human to shower her with hugs and kisses.
Until one day, the puppy started behaving differently.
When she was with her human at the park, Olive began limping. After a few minutes, she was unable to walk. She couldn’t even stand up without a human lifting her.
Noticing the changes in her dog’s behaviors, Avanti quickly rushed her puppy to the vet.
Olive underwent a variety of tests, like MRI, spinal tap, and x-ray to find out what’s affecting her mobility. From being a playful and active puppy, she quickly became paralyzed.
The tests came back with no solid explanation for the Great Dane’s condition.
Because of that, Avanti was told that her precious puppy would need to be put down the next day. She was given the chance to spend a night with the dog.
It was unacceptable for Avanti.
Olive was too precious for her, and she refused to give up so quickly on her dog. Avanti chose to take Olive to the Belle Mead Animal Hospital. There, she spent about two weeks recovering and undergoing therapy.
And surprisingly, she showed signs of improvements.
She was able to regain her strength. She was even able to use her front legs! Just two months after, there were minor improvements in her other legs as well.
Olive had to go to her therapy from Monday to Friday. She needed to be separated from her family during the weekdays so she could spend the weekend with them.
Avanti was fully committed to a 100% recovery for her dog.
After several weeks, Avanti accepted the fact that it may never happen. Despite that, she was still committed to giving Olive the best life possible.
She got Olive her very own wheelchair. It enables the dog to remain active and mobile despite her condition.
Then, someone reached out to Avanti.
It was Anna Lisa. She reached out to offer her massage services to the recovering dog.
At first, Avanti was skeptical. However, since she was willing to try anything for her dog, she eventually agreed. After three massage sessions, Olive was finally able to walk on her own.
Eventually, the Great Dane was able to get her health back.
She was able to get herself back, too. From being a paralyzed dog, she’s now very active and playful. She walks around the yard, sniffs at things, and behaves just like any other dog. She is a completely different pup.
Dogs are just like humans.
They can get sick and they can experience health problems. As their owners, it’s important that you don’t give up easily on them. With proper care and management, it’s possible for them to recover and regain their health and strength. Olive’s story proves that.
