Dog convincingly plays dead before trip to the vet but perks up what she hears her favorite word
Some dogs seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to trips to the vet. They’ll find any reason not to get in the car.
A Shiba Inu puppy named Lulu seemed to have a pretty good idea of the tough day ahead as she was scheduled to be spayed. (It’s an incredibly important responsibility for pet owners, but that doesn’t mean pets have to like it.)
On the morning of Lulu’s appointment, she played a trick on her family.
She didn’t even make it to the front door much less the car as she played dead in bed – and rather convincingly too!
The funny pup belongs to a New Zealand family that has a YouTube channel and Instagram page where they go by @fun.kiwi.kids and post photos of their life.
Lulu’s parents are Micki and David, and her siblings are Lily, Kate, and baby Emily – along with some other pets, they all live together in an old beach house and spend loads of time outside exploring.
These days, there are even some farm animals in the mix (there are ducks and bunnies too)!
It looks like this nature-loving family has a very well-adjusted dog (except when it’s time for the vet).
As you can see, Lulu is normally a very good sport.
But when Micki filmed the pre-vet scene one morning in 2014 when Lulu was just a puppy, she wasn’t game for her outing. In the video, Lulu is curled up in bed, pretending to be asleep.
Normally, Lulu is the first one out of bed and the most energetic member of the family. But not this day!
It doesn’t get any better when mom calls out that it’s time to go to the vet. Rookie mistake, mom!
But Lulu goes full-on “dead” as Micki tries to scratch her belly and even lift her paw to no avail. She even lets her paws go limp.
“You gonna wake up soon, sweetie?” mom asks to no response.
We all know there’s no way the dog’s plan will work, but that doesn’t mean Lulu isn’t convincing.
“Are you pretending you’re a dead puppy?” asks Micki.
But if there’s one thing we all know, it’s that dogs can’t resist the opportunity to get a treat – and Lulu is no different.
“Oh well,” Micki says. “Dead puppies don’t get treats,” Micki said.
What was that word?
The minute mom says the T word, the dog is miraculously roused, looking up and practically smiling in anticipation.
Lulu gets up right away and readies herself when she hears the bag rustling.
Of course, Lulu got her treat in the end (and her trip to the vet).
This Shiba Inu is such a cutie that over 10 million people have seen the video since it was posted in 2014.
These days, Lulu has a new Shiba Inu sibling, Meeko, but there’s no indication that the latest addition has learned the famous family trick yet.
