Man starts running towards toddler and dog jumps into action to protect him

Dogs make great pets and lifelong friends. They are so cute and loving and just want to share joy with us.

But they are also naturally protective of their pack. And they make great defenders and protectors of your home and family.

Dogs are handy in police units because of their desire to protect.

Police began turning to dogs for help on cases over 100 years ago. Initially employed by police in Ghent, Belgium, one of the earliest cases was during the Jack the Ripper case.

The English police used bloodhounds because of their strong sniffing capabilities.

Because dogs have different capabilities than humans – they can run faster and sniff things out better than us – it’s been helpful to use these in solving cases.

German Shepherds are the most commonly seen police dog, but other breeds that have particularly strong sniffing capabilities can also land the job.

Many dog owners will also note how eager dogs are to protect their families.

And this can definitely be an added bonus. For instance, dogs are known to be protective of babies, even human babies who are part of their family. Because dogs are pack animals, they view their family as a “pack” and will become extremely protective of their owner’s babies when they are born. It’s part of the strong bond that dogs share with their families.

There is a video that simulates how far a dog is willing to go for a baby it loves.

At the beginning of the video, you see an idyllic family scene at a park.

A mom is holding her toddler while two slightly older kids are playing on a blanket in the grass. When the mom gets a phone call she asks the two older children to watch the toddler, but they are too preoccupied with their game to truly watch their sibling.

When the toddler wanders off, things get dangerous without anybody noticing.

From the top of the frame, a strange man begins to appear. Like any curious kid, the toddler has walked away from his family on the grass and is now all alone. The man runs towards the baby, and almost no one has a chance to react to what is about to be a kidnapping.

But of course, the family dog is here to save the day.

Just before the strange man grabs the child, a dog comes running at him. The dog heroically leaps on the man, knocking him over and allowing the child to get back towards safety.

K-9 Defense is a dog training organization. They train dogs to become ample police and military companions. They created this video to demonstrate just how handy a well-trained guard dog can be. And, in case you were worried, the man who gets attacked by this dog is wearing a “bite-suit”, so no one got hurt during this simulation.

It’s amazing how deep a dog’s love for us goes.

Dogs truly treat humans like a member of their dog pack. It’s beautiful that dogs will both shower us with love and cuddles, and also leap to our defense when the time comes. These loving animals truly care about us, and they deserve credit for the lengths they will go for their human pack.
