Dog was raised with cats and now he 'purrs' when he gets pet

They say a dog is as good as those who raise it. A good dog is a sign of a good household. And there are no bad dogs. Only bad owners.

This dog definitely took after the ones who raised him. His name is Winston.

Winston is part of Beth Clark’s family. There’s few things in the world he loves more than being around them.

And he’s not the only four-legged member of the family. Winston also shares the household with several of the Clark family’s cats.

Why so many cats? It’s because the Clarks enjoy rescuing and being a foster home to cats. As a result, Winston isn’t the type of dog to chase and harass felines.

And those felines have definitely left their mark on the dog instead.

Winston has developed some – I guess you could say – eccentricities thanks to the cats. We’ve seen a lot of dogs before with eccentric and strange habits, so what makes Winston’s so different?

They say you take after your friends and siblings more than your parents. Those peers close to your age definitely rub off on you a lot.

As a hilarious result, Winston purrs like a cat when given rubs or pats.

“He joined six cats. They all bonded together in such a loving way.” – said Clark when The DODO covered the story

Winston began doing this as a puppy, and he’s been doing it ever since.

“At first, I was taken aback. But I quickly figured out that what he was actually doing was a vocal expression of contentment that he had learned from his siblings!” – continued Clark

And the purring Winston does is just as uncanny as you think it sounds. It does sound 100% like a cat’s purr, just louder and more nasally.

Though I don’t think Winston can hop on counters or use a litterbox.

Dogs behaving like cats – and for that matter, cats behaving kinda like dogs too – aren’t the rarest thing to witness.

“Puppy cat” is even an actual term for one such thing happening. Though “Puppy cats” owe it more to their genes rather than having learned it from a dog.

And how could we forget Tally, the Siberian husky who went viral for acting like a cat too. Tally sits in the “loaf” pose that cats love to do. She sits on the couch like a cat, and most importantly, also has an affinity for hiding and playing in boxes.

Going back to Winston, he even responds to the classic “Pspspspsps”.

That is definitely a cat thing. The comments even ask if he “loafs” like a cat too. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did.

All of this begs the question of what it truly means to be a “dog person” or a “cat person”.

Hey, if you’re lucky you won’t have to choose.

A dog like Winston or Tally would be the best of both worlds.

Just expect to be cleaning up way more hair than any cat will shed. Plus, a standard cat-sized litterbox probably won’t work for them.

If a cat-like dog is too much responsibility for you, then just sit back and watch the shenanigans from someone else’s. You can do that by watching the TikTok of Winston below.

I’m sure more people would get a kick from seeing a dog purr, so share this article with the people you know as well!
