Dog doesn't recognize owner after weight loss until he gets a sniff

A loyal dog would always remember, no matter how long it gets separated from its beloved owner.

A dog’s memory is beyond measure. These adorable creatures could remember almost anything or anyone they came across with simply by the smell or looks. Needless to say, they never forget the people whom they value the most like their owners, also referred to as their human parents.

This beautiful story will prove to us all that dogs really are man’s best friend.

When Shane Godfrey of Sanford, North Carolina, had to be confined and be in the hospital for five long weeks, he wasn’t scared of anything else but the thought of being away from his beloved doggo named Willie.

Thankfully, Shane was surrounded by a good neighborhood and friends who stepped in to give Willie company during his absence. They all made sure that the adorable dog was showered with lots of attention and love from everyone while his owner was recovering at the hospital.

Little did the dog know, he almost lost his owner.

Shane fought a good fight.

He was brought to the hospital because of flu complications. According to WBTV, at one crucial point, Shane almost died. You know when they say that prayers are so powerful, it must’ve been the case for Shane. We’re pretty sure that his family and friends did pray for his recovery, but it could also be that the thought of being reunited with his dog pushed him to fight for survival.

There were tons of reasons why Shane needed to make himself well and one of those was to cuddle with Willie who was patiently waiting for him to be back home.

Finally, the day everyone had been long waiting for came, Shane was finally set to go home. His friend and family immediately prepared a special area for his much-awaited reunion with Willie. Everyone was obviously excited about their reunion, but they were also curious as to how was Willie going to react upon seeing his owner who had been away from him for over a month.

It’s because Shane lost over 50 pounds since he was hospitalized and the weight loss made him virtually unrecognizable.

Willie was set to test whether he would be able to recognize his owner or not. The question then was, would the loyal pooch still remember the person whom he considered his human dad?

On the day of their reunion, cameras started rolling and Shane was seated nervously on a park bench and behind him was Willie. He tried calling his pooch but it seemed like the dog didn’t find his face familiar. It’s sad that Shane’s weight loss made him unrecognizable by his own beloved pooch.

Willie was even barking at his owner, however, Shane still tried his best to call his dog and hoped that with a little convincing, his dog would soon remember him.

A woman then came close to Shane which intrigued the dog to also come nearer. The dog then started to sniff him and just like that, he instantaneously began wagging his tail – he finally knew who the man was and it was none other than his hooman! Willie was so excited to see his human dad again, his tail was wagging non-stop, and was jumping uncontrollably because of so much joy.
