When a dog refuses to get on an escalator, a bystander records owner’s actions

You should never take your dog on an escalator. In fact, most of them have warning signs (and all of them should).

Dogs not only don’t know where to put their paws and can misplace them easily, but their fur can easily get caught between the moving stairs. Escalators have caused some gruesome and unnecessary dog injuries.

No way, dude

Perhaps a Golden Retriever knew better when it refused to get on the escalator at the mall.

As its owner tried to cajole it along, the dog was having no part of the scary moving stairs.

It stopped dead in its tracks and refused to go any further, even with a light tug and encouraging word from dad.

Even a pep talk won’t work.

Now, people are starting to stare. And, to be fair, they probably think there’s something wrong with the dog and are concerned. (And, of course, who doesn’t stare at an adorable Golden Retriever in public?)

While it’s unclear who took the video or why they started filming, the videographer ended up catching a very sweet moment.

There’s no way dad was dragging his dog up there after all.

A snuggly solution

Onlookers begin to smile, perhaps thinking that dad is giving his furbaby a hug to calm it down.

And while he is consoling the creature, he’s really getting ready to do all the moving by himself.

Once he saw those pleading eyes, he had no choice. And we’re glad he decided to do what was right and avoid any possible injuries – especially with such a fluffy pup!

According to Inside Edition, “Veterinarians recommend taking the stairs or an elevator if you are accompanied by your dog. However, if you have to use the escalator, it is recommended to carry the dog up the escalator — no matter the size of your canine.”

Carrying the dog is exactly what he does.

Now there are lots of laughs in the background as people watch the dog owner pick up his full-sized Golden Retriever and carry it up the escalator like a baby.

And it’s just too cute!

The dog behaves perfectly all the way to the top, grateful for the lift.

More warnings

Commenters chimed in about the dangers of escalators for dogs, even while they enjoyed the sweet video.

“Dogs should be scared of the escalator. The metal exit claws grab the dogs paws and debone them. Never let your dog on an escalator. Carry the dog like this man did, take the stairs or take the elevator. Seen too many doggies screaming to the top of their lungs because of their stupid owner putting them on the escalator,” warned one man.

While we’re doubtful one person has seen multiple dogs get mauled by the machinery, the point still stands.

“For a second before I clicked I thought the owner was going to force his dog to actually go on the escalator. I’m glad I was wrong, because I’d have been furious if he had.”
