Dog saunters into police station to report himself as missing

Dogs can sometimes do funny things. Sometimes they like to play with their owners, jumping around, or just acting silly. They can even take a somewhat serious situation and make us laugh, even if we don’t want to. Most of the time, they don’t even realize that they are making us laugh. Take Chico for example.

An unexpected visitor shows up

Early one morning in February, a boisterous dog walked into the police station in Odessa, Texas. He had come to report a missing dog. In this particular case, it was himself. Jumping up on the counter with his front paws, he seemed determined to fill the officers present in on what was going on.

The dog took it all in stride

Sergeant Rusty Martin and the other officers present were at first taken aback by the wandering dog. The pup didn’t appear too worried and was not too upset by the fact that he was a lost dog. Maybe he wasn’t lost but had entered the station looking for someone to hang out with and simply have a good time.

“We were all excited to have him in the building,” Martin told The Dodo. “We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved on him.”

The officers had questions about where he had come from

As the officers enjoyed the company of the lost dog, they started to wonder where he had come from. Answering that question would prove to be a little difficult, though. First off, while the dog was wearing a collar, it was missing a tag. But there was still hope that they could identify the dog.

Maybe the dog had a microchip

Many dog owners get their dogs implanted with a microchip. The microchip contains a variety of information on the dog, including the dog’s name, the name of their owner, and where they live. But, even with a microchip, there is no guarantee that it would contain up-to-date information about the little, lost pup. Calling animal control, the officers waited in the station for them to arrive.

The dog ended up leaving on his own

Unfortunately, while they were waiting, the dog decided it was time to leave and walked out of the police station lobby. The police sat in shock, realizing that there was a big chance that they would never figure out who the dog was and who he belonged to. The only thing they had left to do was post about the whole strange incident on Facebook.

“He ran out just as quick as he came in,” Martin said, having posted about the incident on Facebook. “The owner responded the next day [to say that] it was his dog and he had returned home. He lives about a mile from the station.”

The dog is identified

It turns out that the dog was named Chico and had decided to go roaming on his own. Who would have thought he would come to the one place where he could get help if he was truly lost? Luckily, he was able to get home safely after his little adventure in the wee hours of the morning.
