Courageous dog tears through blazing house fire to rescue tiny kitten friend

There is this stereotype between cats and dogs as natural enemies. Typically, when you let a dog and cat live under the same roof, it oftentimes ends in chaos, but sometimes it blossoms into a beautiful and unbreakable bond.

Something that goes beyond friendship and loyalty, just like the cat and dog in this story.

It all started from a tragic fire incident.

You may remember seeing some news headlines about a devastating explosion in Ukraine a few years ago. No, not the 1986 nuclear blast in Chernobyl. But the much more recent and difficult0-to-pronounce explosion at UkrOboronProm, a prominent defence company.

The unstoppable waves of flame were all over the grounds near Donetsk City, Ukraine.

The sky lit up with orange flames and billowing smoke, engulfing some nearby homes in the blaze. It left many people injured and some even lost their lives. It brought nothing but catastrophe not only to people but also to animals.

Most local residents were fortunate enough to have just enough time to collect their valuables and get to safety.

In the middle of the devastating incident, one unlikely hero stood out- a pup!

It started when one man was able to free his dog as he and the rest of the family were running outside to the front yard.

The first thing everyone learns about fire safety is to leave all your things behind and get to safety. The second is the ever-so-memorable “stop, drop, and roll” tactic, of course. It’s a difficult thing to do, but when the well-being of your family is at risk, you leave the material valuables behind.

Like most of us would, the man also assumed that the dog’s initial response was to quickly run away from the scorching heat of the fire.

But he was terribly mistaken, the brave dog ran straight into their house which at that time was already being swallowed by the flame.

The owner didn’t know what to do. Of course, he wanted to run back in to rescue his dog, but the flames were getting higher and hotter, and it was just too dangerous to go inside.

He stood there on his lawn powerless. Staring up at the devastating fire ripping through his home, feeling confused and heartbroken by his dog’s decision to go back inside. He kept calling for his dog to come back, but the cries felt hopeless.

To everyone’s surprise, the dog came out alive – and he wasn’t alone.

He was carrying a kitten in his mouth!

The family hadn’t been able to get to their kitten in the midst of all the panic and madness while getting out of the burning house. But their brave and loyal doggo wasn’t about to give up on his best friend. The kitten was still so young and must have been scared. It definitely wouldn’t have made it out of the burning house on its own.

They were like glued to each other, they cuddle, snuggle, sleep, hangout, and play together – all the time!

The dog was not only the kitten’s best bud but also its life-saver.

Dogs can sense danger, and obviously, the dog knew that the fire can bring him nothing but that. However, the dog also knew that his friend was still there, trapped and helpless. So instead of just saving himself, he went back to save his pal.

That’s some serious bravery! More than most humans can say they could be sure to do when faced with the same life or death decision.

His owner said that the pup had been carrying his kitten bestie around in his mouth regularly leading up to the fire, so the kitten wasn’t scared and sat calmly between the dog’s jaws. That’s a different kind of bravery!

When the other locals heard about this brave story on the news their hearts were filled with joy. It was a silver lining to an otherwise horrendous occurrence in their hometown. He’s now a local celebrity and hero… and his story is being shared all over the world.

This story simply proves that dogs are not just simply “man’s best friend”, they can also be a good and loyal friend to other animals, a cat at that. And hopefully, this story would also erase the misconception that most people have in mind about cats and dogs, because little do we know, they can also be the best of friends.

Not all heroes wear capes, and not all heroes are humans. Some have paws.
