Dog with deformity “like something out of a science fiction movie” finally finds a forever home

Every dog is special.

Some have interesting personalities and others have cool colorations. Sometimes, a dog jas a deformity that changes how they are viewed by the world. These little fellas are labeled as “misfits” and it’s very difficult to find them a forever home. One stray dog was born with two mouths and after a long search, he was able to find a family.

Someone was able to see through the dog’s deformity and give him the loving home he deserves.

Toad is a 5-year-old pit bull from Oklahoma City.

She was born with two mouths. The extra mouth is right below her ear. The scary appearance of the second mouth made it difficult for Toad to find a family who would permanently adopt her. Fortunately, that was able to change with the help of one kind person.

Heather Hernandez owns a nonprofit shelter called “Mutt Misfits” in Oklahoma City. This shelter specializes in the rescue of cats and dogs with birth defects. As soon as Hernandez met Toad, she knew she had to help..

It was love at first sight! Hernandez knew that Toad was the dog for her. Just like that, Toad had a new loving family and her first home.

Hernandez took Toad to the vet to have an examination.

At first, the vet thought that Toad had extra ears, but after another look, the team realized that it was a second mouth! The second mouth was very strange. It had teeth growing in and lips that salivated just like any other mouth.

It kind of sounds like something from a science fiction movie,” said Hernandez.

The second mouth does not cause pain, but it does impair vision and hearing.

The second mouth makes Toad’s face rather lopsided. This misalignment causes Toad’s vision and hearing to be affected.

Despite this, the Hernandez family is completely dedicated to helping Toad with anything she needs. They give Toad all the love and affection she needs and the family remains completely unbothered by the second smile they see on their dog every morning.

“We had an immediate bond, she is one in a million and she’s very special to me.”

After the adoption, Heather and her family wanted to help other animals with birth defects.

Meeting Toad was actually what caused Heather to start “Mutt Misfits.” The nonprofit shelter saves countless animals from euthanization and finds them loving homes and families instead.

This story shows that appearances do not always matter. There is someone in the world who will look at you and see something beautiful no matter what!

Toad, the dog with two mouths was able to find a family who loves her. I’m sure her tail wags every day and that she always greets her new family with a big two-mouthed smile every morning.
