Abandoned dog seeks shelter from storm while roaming streets and finds her forever home
When Hurricane Irma struck, it caused widespread destruction across the northeast Caribbean and parts of the U.S.
As the storm bore down on Florida, many evacuated their homes, heading north, in some cases leaving their pest behind.
One such pet roamed the streets of Central Florida, seeking a safe place to stay. In the end, she found more than just shelter, but also a forever home.
The dog ended up where she was supposed to be
The dog, desperate to get away from the coming storm, ended up on the porch of a family who had decided to ride the hurricane out.
As the dog arrived, the woman who lived there called her over. Without hesitation, the dog walked up to the woman.
Somehow, she knew she could trust her.
The woman started by giving the dog some food and water, which she consumed quickly.
In the end, the dog ended up eating three bowls of food and drinking two cups of water, all in a matter of minutes.
She had been on the streets for a while as the woman noted her dirt-covered and matted fur.
The woman cleaned the dog up
The dog also had some cuts and scratches on her body and tar stuck to her rear end. She seemed to have been through a lot and needed some help.
It was at that moment that the woman decided to help the poor dog. Taking her into her home, she prepared to clean the dog up.
The first steps of falling in love
It was at this point that she realized just how friendly the dog was. She snuggled up to the woman and even put her paw on her arm.
It was only after the dog had warmed up to her that the woman tried bathing her. The dog seemed to know the woman wanted to help her and even let her cut off the matted fur.
She also took the dog to the vet
Relieved to be somewhere safe, the dog was ecstatic when the woman let her play in her backyard.
She started by running around in circles and at one point started bringing sticks she had found inside. The next day, the woman took her to the vet to see if she had a microchip and to be looked at.
The dog had led a rough life up until that point
She turned out not to have a chip. The vet also said she was a husky/wolf mix that was less than a year old.
Knowing this, the woman took to social media to post about the dog in hopes of finding her owner. It was then that she learned of the dog’s past. As it turned out, she had been with several families since her birth.
The woman decided to give the dog a home
The dog had been wandering for four weeks before arriving at the woman’s home.
In the end, it all worked out as the woman decided to adopt the dog, naming her Amaterasu, or Amy for short.
Not only had the woman saved her from the impending hurricane, but she had also given her a forever home.
As for Amy, she is now happy and clean in her new home. Healthy and happy, what more could she ask for?
