Loyal, stray dog visits her favorite sandwich shop every day for a free meal

Homeless dogs do what they have to to survive. Most often, they eat out of the trash or grab food where they can.

One dog has come up with a masterful way to get at least one meal a day. She waits outside her local Subway restaurant until the staff inside gives her a meal.

Known as “Subway Sally,” the dog was recently shown in a video put up on social media site TikTok. For over a year, she has visited the location and patiently waits outside the front door until a gloved staff member brings her a special meal, free of charge.

And even though the TikTok video is no longer available, it did receive over 3 million views before it was taken down.

Fortunately, you can view the video on various news videos, including one from a local station, KRQE, in New Mexico where the sandwich shop is located.

And Subway is not the only place that Sally frequents. According to the employee who filmed the video, names Gio, if the shop is late in getting Sally her meal, she simply goes across the street to the Taco Bell instead.

Sally needs to keep her strength up as, according to Gio, she has already had four litters of puppies since he began working at the location.

Some questioned whether Sally was really a stray

Some commenters on the original video were quick to note Sally’s clean appearance, thinking maybe she wasn’t a stray after all. Gio was quick to assure everyone that she was, explaining that the local community looks after her and that a local woman baths Sally from time to time.

As for why she hasn’t been rescued yet, Gio explains that attempts have been made in the past, all with no success. She always seems to find her way back to the Subway.

“Multiple people have tried taking her, but she never wants to go,” Gio wrote in a comment on one of his videos. “I suspect she has a regular place to sleep and possibly care for her puppies.”

It’s probably for the best, as the closest shelter is over 20 miles away and is not a no-kill shelter. And while Sally is not the only stray dog in the area, residents care about her and make sure that she is well taken care of. According to Gio, he and his coworkers will continue to care for Sally as long as she needs it.

“My coworkers and I are still going to feed her; don’t worry about that,” Gio said.
