Dog loves new kitty so much he “smuggles” her away from family to keep her to himself

You know how you can sometimes get jealous if someone else calls your best friend their best friend?

It’s not fair, right?

It is you who have been spending more time with them, who has been sharing important and personal stuff, who has been having fun and making plans together.

Still, there comes this guy who wants to “steal” your favorite person from you.

And you feel jealous. And it’s perfectly normal.

Turns out, the same applies to animals.

As you will soon find out reading this story, this feeling does not only apply to humans, but it can be an animal characteristic, too.

Just like Rex the dog who enjoys his kitten friend’s company so much that he doesn’t let anyone else be around him.

Or he didn’t, until a while ago.

Rex is possessive over his kitten.

The only problem? It’s not his kitten.

Colleen Harrison and her family own quite a few pets, with their latest one being a kitten.

In a house full of dogs, one might expect that there would be some fuss, especially during the first few weeks until the animals get to know each other and get used to the new situation.

Casper the kitten was tiny when he was adopted by the Harrison family, and everyone loved him from the very first moment they met him- humans and pets alike.

But Rex loved him most.

While Colleen expected Minnie, the Pit Bull Terrier they have at home, would be the one to show Casper around and protect him until he mingled with the other dogs of the house, things took a different turn.

In fact, it was Rex, another dog in the house, who felt a special connection to the tiny kitten as soon as he entered the house.

The bond Rex felt is strong.

So, he made sure to always be by Casper’s side, making sure that he would be just fine and that he would get the attention he needed.

Rex took his new role seriously

So seriously that he didn’t even want Casper to come in contact with anyone else in the house.

He just wanted to be his best friend- his only best friend, to be precise.

β€œAt first, Rex didn’t like anyone coming near the kitten,” Harrison told The Dodo. β€œHe was very protective of him. He’s the same way with our children. Anytime the kitten or our kids are out of Rex’s sight or in another room he can’t get to, he just sits close by whining for them.”

Being younger than Minnie, Rex has more energy to play with Casper and that’s probably why they clicked together.

But Casper just can’t stay still for long.

As much as Rex would try to snuggle with him and hide him from the other members of the family, the kitten would usually “escape” and keep playing around him.

Today, the dog has come to terms that Casper will also have other friends, but we bet he sure hopes he’s his best friend.
