Dog sneaks into neighbor's house every night to join the kids for bath time

As a parent, you know that you can’t easily separate two best friends.

This is exactly what two dog owners felt when their dogs started becoming friends. When, Aeida, a Staffordshire bull terrier, arrived in Australia, she became best friends with the dog next door, Cashew.

The two of them quickly became inseparable. They’d play together every day that one of them would disappear only to be found on the other side of the fence.

To solve the “disappearances”, their families installed a dog door between the two houses.

And if you’re a little kid, what’s better than living with your best friend? That’s something these two dogs could attest to. Instead of taking the dangerous route of jumping or climbing over fences, the two dogs can now come and go as they please.

Their families shared that the two of them spend a lot of time going back and forth between houses and there were still no signs of them growing tired of each other.

They spend so much time together that both families consider the other dog a part of their family.

In fact, after spending more time in their neighbor’s house, Aeida began forming a bond with the neighbor’s children.

“Aeida is very friendly and loving. She really just loves everyone and anything — especially our neighbors’ children,” Nicole Ackehurst, Aeida’s mom, told The Dodo.

It didn’t take long before they noticed something different about Aeida.

Looking back at the last couple of weeks, Aeida’s family noticed that she began disappearing around a certain hour in the evening.

At that hour, she should’ve been done playing with Cashew and yet she’s nowhere to be found. That is until their neighbor revealed to them what was happening.

Aeida was joining the neighbor’s kids during bath time.

“Our neighbors sent us a Facebook message with Aeida sitting in their bathtub,” Ackehurst said to The Dodo. “We believe that was the first time she had done it.”

Aeida was just there, sitting as the neighborhood kids play in the tub. It was especially hilarious because Aeida’s parents admitted that their dog hates taking baths.

She doesn’t have that kind of problem, however, whenever bath time involves their neighbor’s kids.

By spending time with Cashew, Aeida thinks that she’s already part of the family.

And as part of that family, she finds it important to join certain family rituals. Now, just as the kids are preparing for bedtime, Aeida sneaks through the doggy door just so she can take a bath.

“She will join them at bath time at every chance she gets,” Ackehurst said.

As for the kids and the family next door, they don’t seem to mind.

“I’m pretty sure our neighbors love having her over, just as we love having Cashew come over too,” Ackehurst said to The Dodo. “Aeida and Cashew are great friends, and have such a strong bond. They’re both considered great parts of our families.”

It might be odd for some to have a dog that’s not yours at the same time. But for these kids, it seems like Cashew isn’t the only family dog they’ll grow up with.
