Have you ever wondered what your dog does when you’re not at home to watch them? Well, this homeowner wanted to know. So they put a camera in the kitchen to see just exactly what their beagle was up to. You’ll see in the footage captured that we have a very smart dog on our hands.

Beagles are a breed of hound and have a superior sense of smell. They are bred primarily as hunting dogs because of it and their tracking skills. In the home, they are even-tempered and gentle dogs but they do have a tendency to bark or howl when approached by the unfamiliar. Makes for a great look-out dog.

That sense of smell is what gets Lucy the beagle into some mischief.

The setting in the video looks like your average kitchen with an island and chairs around it. Lucy begins cruising around the island with a nose to the ground. But her attention quickly goes to the sky. She jumps onto one of the chairs and right on up to the top of the island.

She did it so quickly, you can tell this wasn’t her first time. She walks toward the corner of the kitchen where a small oven/microwave is at. She looks to see if food is in there but her nose tells her there definitely is.

Being on the island she wouldn’t be able to make a giant leap to the counter, so she climbs down. Just then the bell goes off. ‘Food is ready!’ That sound adds even more motivation for Lucy to get a taste of whatever is in there.

She walks over to the little oven to inspect a little more. Lucy tries to jump up and see if she can get to the food from the floor but the counters are just a bit too high. She will have to figure some other way.

Lucy knows that she can use the chairs to assist her. She just used them to get on top of the island(Where I’m sure in the past, she has found some treats to reward herself.) So she starts to push the chair out from the island with her nose. She calculates where to go and logically decides to push the chair to the closest counter access.

Slowly and with intent, she puts the chair right where she’ll be able to jump up on the counter. She does it and walks over to the oven. Now what? How will she get to the food?

Lucy puts her paw on the handle of the oven and pulls it open. First, it bounces back and closes on her. But with persistence, she opens and holds the oven door open.

It seems she can feel the danger of the heat so her next move is very specific. Instead of touching any of the oven surfaces, she is able to put her mouth right on the chicken and toss it quickly to the floor.

Avoiding any burns, she jumps to the floor and gobbles down her hard-earned treat. It’s funny after shes tastes the chicken, cause her speed doubles to make it back up on the counter to try and find more oven treats. It’s the fastest you’ll see Lucy go the whole video. It’s a very impressive video.
